I think I figured out why the Default User Profile was listed as a Network share on my Win10 PC.
When I set up my Win10 PC, I enabled "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" in Folder Options > View. If I disable that feature (choosing "Don't show hidden files, etc."), the Default User is no longer listed.
FYI. Just thought you'd be interested to know. Thanks again for your help. Your tutorials are great.
Thank you for posting back with that. You think it wouldn't be shared by default tough even if set to show hidden files, etc...

I experimented with File Sharing and I think I discovered why my Windows Vista "C:\Users\Default" folder was accessible in my Windows 10 Network list.
I think this oddity was caused by the "Sharing Wizard" on my Windows Vista PC (Folder Options > View > Advanced Settings > Use Sharing Wizard). Listed below is what I did and found:
1.) Unshare all folders, restart PC
2.) With "Sharing Wizard" turned ON (check-marked) (Vista PC):
When I share a folder that resides on my Vista PC (ie.. C:\Users\Steve\Documents\Reports\) -- via Properties >Sharing > "Share" (1st button) > Everyone -- the "C:\Users" folder is also marked as SHARED. On my Windows 10 PC, I can see and access the Vista PC folders:
C:\Users\Default\
C:\Users\Steve\Documents\Reports
3.) Unshare ALL folders, restart PC.
4.) With "Sharing Wizard" turned OFF (unchecked) (Vista PC):
When I share the Vista PC folder (C:\Users\Documents\Reports\) -- via Properties >Sharing > "Advanced Sharing" (the Share button is greyed out) > Everyone -- the "C:\Users" folder is NOT Shared. On my Windows 10 PC, I can see and access only one Vista PC folder:
C:\Users\Steve\Documents\Reports
5.) I confirmed the list of shares (#2 and #4) by running the Net Share command on my Vista PC.

I tried to follow your instructions to share my desktop folder on Win10 with my WinXP machine. However, when I right click my desktop folder/Properties/Sharing/Share, I can't seem to add my XP machine. What I do is put in:
\\XP computer name\Phil
where Phil is my profile with admin rights on XP. However, I get a message that it can't find it.
The strange thing is, I can access my XP folders from Win10 without a problem. From XP, I can access my Win10 Documents folder or subfolder without a problem. However, after upgrading from 1803 to 1809, I can't access either my Win10 Phil profile (or it's Desktop) from XP.
I've checked all the steps that you've provided & don't know where to go from here.

After upgrade to 1809, Windows XP won't connect to Win10
As I have now explained in your own thread, you need to set it to share with Everyone and not a specific account on another computer.

Network connection between 2 of my PCs has always been intermittent, and so I ran through the tutorial. The only error that I found was that SMB Direct was not present on one of the PCs - a PC that I had upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 some time ago. And when I say "missing", I mean that it simply doesn't appear under Folder Options > View > Advanced Settings. Is there anything I can do to remedy this?

Did you mean the Use Sharing Wizard setting in Folder Options > View > Advanced Settings instead?
Sorry, I meant that it was missing from Turn Windows Features On or Off.
