Seems like not only does Modern Standby prevent you from seeing the other options, it also doesn't show the other default plans with "powercfg -list". It'll only list "balanced" but the other plans are hidden. Still can duplicate them but the duplicates are also hidden as well...

Could you maybe add Reset and Restore Power Plans to Default Settings in Windows 10 to the first option in case they deleted the "hidden" default plans? it should restore them using powercfg -restoredefaultschemes

Whilst the issue can exist, it has nothing to do with S0 Modern standby.
    - I have one proper computer that still lists High performance & Power saver as well.
    - I have one proper computer that only lists Balanced.
    - And I also I have one S0 Modern standby computer that only lists Balanced.

Any idea what this issue could be caused by?
I have a S0 Modern Standby computer that only lists Balanced and will never add any new plans if duplicating one of the other default plans.
I also have a S3 computer that only lists Balanced, but will add new plans to "additional plans" if I duplicate one of the hidden default plans.

(In this case, hidden plans would be all of the default plans except the Balanced plan)

None at all but new computers probably come with whatever setup the maker has decided upon [i.e. whether or not they have used the procedures in this tutorial in their default configuration]
    - I just wanted to help you avoid disappearing down some blind alley by thinking S0 Modern standby was the cause.
    - On my one proper computer that only lists Balanced the power plans disappeared from the list after the Version 1709 update [when that Power mode slider thing was first introduced].

I would have expected the procedures in this tutorial to resolve matters for you.
    - I would have thought that Option 1 would work in most cases and that Option 2 would work in all others.
    - But, if I have understood your post correctly, that is not the case and you have to use a different procedure.

Same here, I remember having the other power plan options before a certain update (forgot which). Now the S3 computer will not list any of the other default plans unless duplicated. I suppose it's nothing much to worry about.

Also most of the time these schemes are still in the computer themselves. Even with S0 Modern Standby you can use "powercfg -setactive <scheme name>" and still switch to the hidden default plans. There are also some new scheme names, probably for the battery slider.

Well it worked for me when all other options did not. After disabling S0 Low Power Idle state my three default Power plans are now visible.

I'll keep an eye on whether or not disabling Modern standby presents any problems down the track.

Bought a new laptop and noticed that only the Balanced power profile was showing with Powercfg.exe /L
After doing some investigation with another Windows 10 laptop I noticed that the new laptop had S0 as sleepmode
and the older laptop S3. The S0, also called modern sleep, was preventing me from seeing the other Power Profiles in the windows settings. You can check with Powercfg.exe /A.

So these settings did the trick for me:

Disable Modern Standby in Windows 10 and Windows 11 Tutorial | Windows 11 Forum

    Code:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power]
    "CsEnabled"=dword:00000000 ;Connected Standby disabled
"PlatformAoAcOverride"=dword:00000000 ;No Modern Standby (s0) but only S3 (longer standby)
    Hope this helpes someone.

    Cheers

Interesting observation. Thanks for posting it.

S0 is called S0 Modern standby & S0 Low power idle.
It is not sleep. It is an idle condition. MS make it difficult to appreciate this distinction by the way they refer to S0 sometimes.
Like you, I've disabled S0 on the one computer that was afflicted with this curse.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I only noticed that my new (former S0) laptop, now in S3, gets BSOD when trying to sleep. So I disabled Sleep completely and shutdown now. Must be a BIOS thingy but I can't bother anymore.
Pitty. I assume this Modern Standy was the brain fart of someone at microsoft who didn't had his coffee yet. Nobody wants this!
On a desktop maybe, on a laptop it might even be dangerous if it is in you bag and it decides to wake up for whatever is so important it needs to do when you are not using it. May even catch fire

    Cheers

I had to reinstall my Wifi adapter driver when I disabled S0. Perhaps in your case you need to reinstall the display driver [which can often be the cause of sleep problems].

S0 is actually an Intel initiative but MS and seemingly all the computer manufacturers think it is wonderful.

    All the best,
