    Hello,

This tutorial still works, but just to note, this is only for the Windows Security app and not for Windows Defender.

    Hi @Brink

I have a problem with WS. The "Real-time protection" button is grayed out and it shows "This setting is managed by your admin".

I am admin user and I didn't change GP or Registry to disable it. I have checked both of them (Group Policy & Registry) and they have their default options (in GP "Turn of Defender" is "Not Configured" and in Registry "DisableAntiSpyware" key value was "0" and I have deleted it).

I have no third-party antivirus or malware app installed, just default Windows Defender (updated to 17 July).

I had reset WD (How to Reset Windows Security App in Windows 10 | Tutorials (tenforums.com) but nothing!

    Hello,

If you haven't already, double check the policy settings below to see if they may have been set to disable.

    Many thanks

I applied "To Enable Real-time Protection for Microsoft Defender Antivirus" RegKey which you provided on link below and it works.

Just a quick question. Why WS (=Windows Security) changes my settings automatically with no notification before that! Every time I turn off the "Cloud-delivered protection" and "Automatic sample submission" and "Tamper Protection", it enables it automatically (I think they become enable after WS updates!)

    Great news.

It depends on how "Tamper Protection" was turned off.

If you turn off "Tamper Protection" using any method other than directly from Windows Security, then it and Microsoft Defender will automatically get turned back on after some time.

I have disabled it (turn it off) directly from WS (not by Group Policy or Registry). BTW, I'll check if it returns again after update.

    Thanks.

Of course, you also have the possibility of it getting reset back to default by a Windows Update.
