    Be careful of what folders you delete, may cause problems;
    what I do is copy the shortcuts from the desired folders and paste them in the parent folder, then hide the folders and other shortcuts I don't use or want to see...

    I then rename the newly created shortcuts with special character prefixes to keep them in a desired hierarchy...

    Thanks for the warning, I double checked every folder and its contents. I only deleted the folders which existed for the displayed app shortcuts. These folders contained additional shortcuts like "Help" and "Uninstall", and didn't need those to show up on the start list. When found a shortcut of an app missing from the start list, I added it through the context menu "Pin to Start". Also, I have a decent familiarity with Microsoft's Program, menu, and data folder structures.

    Hello Simone,

    You might see if using the tutorial below to reinstall and re-register all apps may be able to sort it for you.

    thanks Brink, already tryed that, i tryed almost every guide found on this forum and on the web

    on others account on the same computer the item is not there, weird is that on "broken" account i have a TdlData.xml located in C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer but not in the other accounts folders so i can not swap that file, read elsewhere that past 1709 the xml file has been replaced to a database file that i can't find

    obviously right click on that item shows "settings" "vote" "share", no other useful information to find out what application is corrupted

    In that case, you could also try a repair install if not already.

    I know you understand that i can't do such thing on a work notebook i am sure if i nuke that user account and then make a new one that will be solved but i am searching for a less destructive solution as i have many licensed softwares and my user is a domain corporate user

    hoped that 1803->1809 upgrade would have solved that but i'm still on 1803 because I think HP have blocked 1809 on many notebooks, mine is 250 G5

    in your opinion is that a corrupted start menu entry or an entire application?

    Yeah, you don't want to do all that on a work/domain PC.

    Usually, it's from a corrupted app.

    You could try resetting the Start layout for the account to see if that may clear the app.

    suprisely, this weekend windows updated to 1809 but the app/icon is still there

    i tryed your reset start layout: it resetted the start menu but it left many and many broken icons/tiles to the download icon/state (down arrow) may it be someway related to my broken link/app? in other PCs i saw them go away in some minute but in this account they remain in that state

    Sometimes it may take a bit for them all to update on Start. Check for updates in the Microsoft Store app to see if any may be available.
