How to Turn On or Off Automatically Hide Scroll Bars in Windows 10 UWP Apps

Starting with Windows 10 17083, Microsoft has added a new setting for those who would prefer their scrollbars stay always visible in UWP (XAML) apps. Turning this setting off will result in the scroll bars in UWP (XAML) apps persisting as scrollbars in their full expanded size, even when not interacting with them.

Start won’t follow this setting yet in build 17083, but Microsoft is working on it.

Starting with Windows 10 build 17110, Start will now follow this setting.

This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off automatically hide scroll bars in UWP (Store) apps for your account in Windows 10.

6 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

    That's it,
    Shawn

I had to find my old userID and get password reset to post this, but it is worth it:

I lost a lot of files last time Win10 failed to boot (fails about every 2 years and nothing short of resetting or reinstalling helps)
    BUT
after reinstalling Win10 1803 yet again, and getting re-updated to 1903, the stupid "flying in and out" scrollbars and inability to change the color of the pale off-white Taskbar were really GETTING ON MY NERVES.

But thanks to Brink, these 2 late-model Win10 annoyances are history, headache is going away now, all is right with the world, and even COVID-19 seems to be lightening up.

If we could just stop the "improvements" to Win10 …

This looks exactly as the answer I', looking for. But I can't use it.
Óptions 1 : My configuration page does not look at all like the example, and nowhere I can find the indicated display options.
Option 2 : I udes the reg-file. and restarted. Nothing changed
My scrollbar keeps hiding in Firefox and Thunderbird.

Anybody an ides how to tweak this in Win 10 Home edition 2021H1 ?? Thanks

    Hello Dieten,

Please go ahead and post a screenshot showing what you see for option 1 instead to see if anything may stand out.

Do note, this setting only applies to UWP apps (aka: Microsoft Store apps, Settings, etc...), and not desktop apps like Firefox and Thunderbird.

Sorry, Brink, for my insufficient complaint. I made the mistake of accessing "ease of use" by "configurations" and that results in a very different in outlook from searching the same thing in "settings" - Don't ask me way.

I found the option in settings after all, but to now help.
In Settings The option "hide scrollbar ..... " is off.
In the register there are 2 references both : "DynamicScrollbars"=dword: 0x00000000.

But even in Registereditor the slider of the the scrollbar hides and you have to hover on thi invisible slider by accident to see and use it. It is not only a firefox and Thunderbird problem on my machine the hiding happens everywhere

Go ahead and post a screenshot showing this for Registry Editor to see if anything stands out.

Usually, scroll bars show by default for desktop apps.

The regedit-window without hovering on the slider

The regedit-window after I manage to hover on the slider (easy as not much is open here, but impossible at long pages)

Finally I can be more precise : the question is Why I have to find the hidden slider, before I can see the slider ?
E.g. to find a reply in this tread I have to move all along the rightside of my screen in the hope to find the slider, somewhere in the total white space . and then I have to hit it when a darker spot shows. It is do distracting to do such a test of handyness all the time in between reading an article. Why MS obligates to play cat and mouse games when you work ?
