You can use different keyboards with Windows to fit your needs. The most common is a physical, external hardware keyboard that you plug into your PC. Windows 10 includes a touch keyboard for PCs.

Starting with Windows 10 build 17063, you can add a period after you double-tap the Spacebar in the touch keyboard.

This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off add a period after you double-tap the Spacebar while using the touch keyboard for your account in Windows 10.

CONTENTS:

Turn On or Off Touch Keyboard Capitalize First Letter of Each Sentence in Settings

1. Open Settings, and click/tap on Time & language.

Starting with Windows 10 build 17083, you will need to click/tap on the Devices icon instead.

2. Click/tap on Keyboard on the left side, click/tap on a keyboard layout on the right side for the language you want to set this for, and click/tap on Options. (see screenshot below)

Starting with Windows 10 build 17083, you will need to click/tap on Typing on the left side of the Devices page instead.

3. Check (on - default) or uncheck (off) Add a period after I double-tap the Spacebar under Touch keyboard for what you want. (see screenshots below)

4. You can now close Settings if you like.

Turn On or Off Touch Keyboard Add Period after Double-tab Spacebar in Registry Editor

1. Press the Win+R keys to open Run, type regedit into Run, and click/tap on OK to open Registry Editor.

2. Navigate to the key below in the left pane of Registry Editor. (see screenshot below)

Replace the loc_0409 subkey with the language code for your keyboard language instead. If you can't determine the language code for your keyboard, then please feel free to post a reply requesting it.

3. In the right pane of the im_1 key, double click/tap on the PeriodShortcut DWORD to modify it. (see screenshot above)
Note   Note
If you do not have a PeriodShortcut DWORD, then right click on an empty area in the right pane of the im_1 key, click/tap on New, click/tap on DWORD (32-bit) Value, type PeriodShortcut for the name, and press Enter.

4. Enter 1 (on - default) or 0 (off) for what you want, and click/tap on OK. (see screenshot below)

5. You can now close Registry Editor if you like.
