How to Set Data Limit for Cellular, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet Networks in Windows 10

Starting with Windows 10 build 17063, you can now configure data limits and/or place background data restrictions to Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections, in addition to cellular connections, in the Data usage page in Settings. The updated settings page aims to support a diverse set of devices and users. Whether you have a PC with cellular connectivity or a metered ethernet network connection, tailor your data usage to your budget and needs.

Setting a data limit for a network connection will allow Windows to help you stay under its data limit. This won't change your data plan.

Starting with Windows 10 build 18956, network data usage has now been combined to show on the network status page.

This tutorial will show you how to set, edit, or remove a data usage limit for cellular, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet network connections for all users in Windows 10.

When you set a data usage limit for a cellular, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet network, it will also automatically set the cellular, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet network as a metered connection.

If this is for a cellular data network, you can turn on Use the data limit set by my mobile operator instead of manually with Set Limit or Enter limit.
