Don't apologise for the long post. I found it quite interesting :)

I'm using a 650 at the moment which is ok. However I've also got a 635 which I've tried Windows 10 on 3 times now and each time had to reset it to Windows 8.1. Think I might use that one when I go to NZ for a holiday next Jan and get a local SIM for it.

As for my next phone I'm definitely going Android as they seem to keep on top of the game.

Where are you located Arc ?. Here in Serbia, all L640 variants are still sold and available in stores as well as from mobile phone operators.

After I read the eligible nokia phones for W10, will have to give up on my 521 and let it remain on W8.1 My 640 however updated without issue. I do not have a sim in either of these phones and with the nag screen of sim failure, it is great to work with only on WiFi.

I got it a few days ago on by 640 Lumia and love all the new icons in settings. Finally a camera button on the lock screen! and the music drop down controls also when I use Spotify. Great improvements.

So, what did I do... Well, Google and Apple will never get a penny from me, as I don't like them as companies and the way they operate. The same reason why Facebook, Sony and Electronic Arts won't either. So, I went back to using a Nokia 6303 running Symbian and I must say I still really like this little phone. No kidding, it's small/light and the battery lasts forever. Although, I kinda miss sat nav. :)
I am not a phone type of person, but I do have to say I just got a refurb Nexus 6P, and I love this phone.

My roomies are iPhone addicts and bug me all the time. But I am cheap, Tracfone is my carrier (since I rarely use the phone) I hate paying the typical $25 - $50 monthly charge for phone service. Tracfone has a BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) which the Nexus qualifies under and I purchase minutes as needed. Best of both worlds.

I never go anywhere without it, as before I hated carrying a phone with me, but not any longer.

Windows mobile biggest downfall is still their available apps, they simply do not have the apps I use. So they are not even in the running for me.

Na, if I don't like the way a company operates they've pretty much had it. Sony I boycotted over 10 years ago and nothing has changed, they still won't ever get a penny from me.

A phone is purely a tool for me. I use it as a communication device, with the added benefit of being a reminder/alarm clock, occasional Sat Nav device and emergency camera if I don't have a proper camera to hand. As such Windows 10 Mobile does everything I want from a phone, I'm just frustrated Microsoft bought the best phone manufactuer in the world, only to throw it in the bin.

But of course I'm well aware that other people like spending lots of time on their phones and for some reason have a thing for more and more apps, but it's not something I get personally, as it doesn't solve any problems for me. Like I said, I use a phone predominately as a communication device, with a proper computer being where I want to spend my time doing things, with real software, a keyboard, mouse and graphics tablet and if anything I want to move from a 24" monitor to an even larger screen, not use a smaller screen (or a Cintiq 27 and kill two birds with one stone, if they didn't cost a kidney).

Funnily enough though, I turned on my old Lumia 635 tonight to double-check a question I replied to on this forum earlier, and it updated itself to the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update despite supposedly not being eligible for it... I have no idea why, so tomorrow I'll be back to using Windows 10 Mobile, just with a 635 instead of a 640 for the time being.

P.S. Today I also learnt that if you setup a Lumia 635 without a Microsoft Account and not connected to Wi-Fi, the calculator doesn't work and says it needs an internet connection? Bizzarre.
