Samsung not my flavour of the month right now. Their last update erased over half of my contacts.
It’s no secret that Snapdragon powers some of the best phones in the world, and two new devices just joined that distinguished lineup. Our friends at Samsung recently hosted their Samsung Unpacked event, unveiling the launch of several exciting new devices. Let’s dive into what's coming your way.
Unveiled at Unpacked
Among other products, Samsung launched two new Snapdragon® 8+ Gen 1 powered phones: the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. The Z Fold4 delivers unparalleled productivity, with a massive screen perfect for multi-tasking. The new taskbar lets you pin your common apps, meaning all your favorites are just a tap away. And with a 12 MP ultra wide camera, 10 MP telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom, and a 50 MP wide lens, the Z Fold4 is a photographer’s dream.
Like the Galaxy Z Fold4, the Z Flip4 is a playground for photographers and cinematographers. By folding the device, you get a built in tripod and the ability to use the Z Flip4 like a camcorder, giving you ‘90s nostalgia with all the improvements of ‘22 tech. Plus with optical image stabilization (OIS) and video digital image stabilization (VDIS), night shooting has never been better. (P.S. Send us your #ShotOnSnapdragon pics on Instagram and Twitter—we love seeing what you’re up to.)
Add in extended battery life, customizable color options with the Galaxy Z Flip4 Bespoke series, and the convenience of the easy-to-use cover screen, and you’ve got a pretty cool device on your hands. Check out the full event replay to learn more about all of Samsung’s upcoming devices.
Star of the Show
Of course, the real star of the show is what’s powering these new phones: the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform. Both devices feature our premium-tier powerhouse, so you get the premium experiences you deserve. With 5G mmWave, these phones can provide the fastest 5G cellular speeds available. Plus, with Qualcomm® FastConnect 6900™, you can expect unparalleled Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® connectivity.
We’ve worked hard to improve upon our already amazing tech. That’s why the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 provides up to 10% faster GPU speeds and CPU processing, as well as up to 30% GPU and CPU power efficiency improvement compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
What does this mean for you? Ultra-smooth responsiveness, lightning fast speeds, low latency, reliable performance, and heightened security. The Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 are perfect examples of the premium performance we deliver with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
Special Guests
One of the perks of being a Snapdragon Insider is getting behind-the-scenes access to events like Samsung Unpacked and the people behind the products. Just ask Antonio Luis (@Antonio_Luis on Twitter). He sat down with Qualcomm CMO Don McGuire for a quick @SnapdragonOfficial Instagram Q&A about Samsung, Snapdragon, NYC, and more. Check out what they had to say:
Don: Hey, I’m Don McGuire, CMO of Qualcomm.
Antonio: I’m Antonio Luis, a Snapdragon Insider.
Don: And we are both here at Samsung Unpacked to answer your questions.
Antonio: Flip or Fold 4?
Don: Definitely, the Flip 4.
Antonio: What do you love about the Flip 4?
Don: One of the best features of the Flip 4 is that you can hold it up in camcorder mode and use it like a camcorder and be able to take video and pictures. It’s super easy to do. It automatically senses that you’re doing that.
Don: So Antonio, I have a question for you. What do you love about being a Snapdragon Insider?
Antonio: I’m here with you at the Samsung Unpacked event, having a great time, being behind the scenes, asking you questions. It’s amazing!
Antonio: What’s next for the Snapdragon Insiders?
Don: Well you may have heard that we announced a global sponsorship with Manchester United. So that’s what’s next for Snapdragon Insiders. We’re going to bring you all into the Manchester United world and the global fanbase of 1.1 billion people.
Antonio: What’s the most impressive thing about these devices powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1?
Don: It’s really about power and the increase in performance plus the camera, photography, gaming, and productivity in these devices. They’re excellent.
Antonio: What’s your first order of business in NYC: pizza or sight seeing?
Don: It’s gotta be pizza.
Don: Antonio, you’re a New Yorker. Bacon, egg, and cheese or chopped cheese?
Antonio: Bacon, egg, and cheese … on a hero.
Antonio: What’s the coolest part about Samsung Unpacked so far?
Don: It’s really the ability to get hands-on with these extraordinary devices. And in both New York and London, consumers can come through this experience zone for an entire month.
Antonio: You’ve partnered with Samsung for a while. What’s new about this extended collaboration?
Don: What’s new about this extended collaboration is that now the entire Galaxy flagship line will be powered by Snapdragon, globally.
Our strategic partnership with Samsung
In case you missed it, Qualcomm and Samsung recently strengthened and extended our strategic partnership through 2030 (#besties) — and part of that expansion means Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will power the Samsung Galaxy Z series around the world. It’s pretty huge news, and we aren’t the only ones excited about this.
The future is looking pretty bright for Snapdragon and Samsung, and that future starts with the Z Fold4 and Z Flip4. We can’t wait for you all to have the experiences you deserve with these incredible phones.
