    Intel's Q2 2022 earnings report today was uncharacteristically disappointing, but it also hid a new announcement: Intel is ending its Optane business entirely. During the earnings call, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger clarified the vaguely-worded announcement in the earnings documents, confirming that Intel will wind down its Optane business. The move incurs a $559 million inventory impairment/write-off. We reached out to Intel for comment on the matter:

    "We continue to rationalize our portfolio in support of our IDM 2.0 strategy. This includes evaluating divesting businesses that are either not sufficiently profitable or not core to our strategic objectives. After careful consideration, Intel plans to cease future product development within its Optane business. We are committed to supporting Optane customers through the transition."— Intel's spokesperson to Tom's Hardware.

    Not sure why you would rejoice in this.

    I have an Optane NVME drive and its is great.

    I turned it off and pc was less responsive, not by much but enough to make a difference.

    Sadly, I guess with MVME drives, optane impact is just not enough to justify the technology anymore.

    @cereberus -

    Two simple reasons:

    1) I have received in the past several Intel updates to Optane, though I don't have it.
    2) It's really not in use any more.

    That's it.

    My point is a lot of us have optane drives. I guess I will just have to hope Intel still providecsuitable driver support for foreseeable future.

    I don't use Optane, but I've been getting this daily for the past 2 weeks.
