We’re facing some of the most challenging times in recent memory. Keeping social distance is vital, but staying home for long periods can be difficult and feel isolating. Video games can be a valuable way to socialize with friends and family when you’re stuck at home, so we’re giving gamers in 14 countries free access to Stadia Pro for two months. This is starting today and rolling out over the next 48 hours.

Anyone who signs up will get two free months of Stadia Pro with instant access to nine games, including GRID, Destiny 2: The Collection, and Thumper. You can purchase even more games on the store, which will remain yours to play even if you cancel your Stadia Pro subscription. If you’re already a paid Stadia Pro subscriber, we won’t charge you for the next two months. After that, Stadia Pro is $9.99 a month, but you can opt out of your subscription at any time.

If you’re new, playing on Stadia is simple:

With increased demand due to more people at home during this time, we’re taking a responsible approach to internet traffic. For Stadia, we’ve always adjusted bandwidth use based on a variety of in-home and local internet factors. To reduce load on the internet further, we’re working toward a temporary feature that changes the default screen resolution from 4k to 1080p. The vast majority of people on a desktop or laptop won’t notice a significant drop in gameplay quality, but you can choose your data usage options in the Stadia app.

Like so many people around the world going through this crisis, our support team has been significantly impacted, and our customer support functions are not running at full capacity. Please use our automated Help Center and, as you give Stadia a try, check out these helpful tips for setting up your home environment. Many of you will be new to Stadia, so we’ve also posted a Getting Started Walkthrough.

Have fun, stay safe, and we look forward to playing with you on Stadia.

Unfortunately the "free" subscription is only for 2 months, after which Google starts charging you $10/month just to be able to play a game. To play any game you have to purchase it with real money; there are no truly free games. And for some reason there does not seem to be a way to cancel the "free" subscription after you sign up.

No way to to cancel subscription is a deal breaker.

Well...I appreciate your clarifications Brink, but the process is not as easy as it should be. Here's what happened:
    1. Sign up for Stadia. This required using my Google email ID which I in fact never use and have set up to forward all email to my real email ID. The signup process completed just fine.
    2. I logged in and chose my avatar and Stadia user name - no problems so far.
    3. I looked at the list of games (quite extensive for sure) and saw that there was some $ charge for all of them. I tried a sort from low cost to high and found the lowest cost game was something like $4.95.
    4. I decided I did not want Google to start charging me $10/mo beginning 2 months from now, so I tried to find a way to cancel my Stadia subscription. But was unable to find anything related to that.
    5. I went through their Help screens and found their instructions for cancelling my subscription.
    6. I followed the Help screen instructions, but there was no option to cancel. My guess was this was the result of me not having purchased any games.
    7. I initiated an online chat with one of the Help people and after verifying who I was and that I did have a Stadia subscription the Help person said I was no longer enrolled in Stadia Pro (whatever that is) and would not be charged starting in 2 months..
    8. After ending the chat I checked and saw that I could still log in to Stadia, so I apparently still have some sort of Stadia account, and I guess I'll just have to have faith that Google won't start charging me in 2 months.
    9. Google has my CC# etc. so if my faith in them waivers in the next 2 months I'll find a way to remove that from my Google account.

I think the best way to cancel, is to remove your payment method

    go to myaccount.google.com Google Account

login with your google credentials and password

then look under Payments & subscriptions and remove your payment info

    then they can't charge you
