Google is being investigated by anti trust lawyers.

Google is being investigated by anti trust lawyers. I hope they are broken up for more than one reason.

    Hi there
If you break up some of these companies what would you replace them with -- Does anybody really think our lives would be better if we needed to find out the answer to some question or read say scientific journals and had to do it the old way by making a request to a (usually council / govt run) local library and even if document was available you'd probably have to wait weeks to get it (AND PAY A FEE in some cases).

Also the manual method could note / pass details of your request to all sorts of "3rd parties" too.

There's far too much paranoia around these days -- some people think companies have nothing better to do than peruse PETABYTES of data going through a lot of peoples (usually totally inane) phone calls / text messages / twitter etc etc.

If the CIA want to leak info they don't need the help of the Wasington Post to do it either !!!!!

Personally I suggest if you are that scared don't use the Internet or probably you might be doing nefarious activities that could be illegal .

Even D2G isn't as anonymous as it is supposed to be. But who cares anyway.

If Govts can't even get simple things like individual Income Tax refunds organised in a timely manner ot don't even know how many people they have in Jail at any one time I don't think they would have any control over what typical people are doing on the Net unless you make yourself a very serious "Person of Interest. !!

Anybody who has ever dealt with Govt organisations at any level --just try local planning for example !!! knows how hideous and inefficient the experience is - and that's World Wide too -- ever been to even a US Post Office which is actually one of the "better ones" -- so there's no way to be even remotely bothered with this stuff.

    Cheers

So Google knows where you live and that you shop at Walmart and work at Wendy's! Who gives a sh*t!
    Hi,
    Not the only issue actually
Google also culls search results to push their agenda which is just pure censorship
Only good if you agree with their agenda

Facebook and even twitter doing the same thing shadow banning

All three should be regulated as what they are private companies with obvious bias.

    Hi there
    @ThrashZone

"Censorship" -- what exactly does that mean --I'm sure the US govt for instance has far more control over what access people have to what data / information than Google does --especially as Google started off as a means for people to get access easily to any sort of information whether it was usually controlled by Govts or not.

Regulation is also a double edged sword-- who decides what level of regulation and what exactly do you do

I believe even in Roman times (Julius Caesar and even well before) this saying was doing the rounds

    Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Roughly translated from the Latin -- Who shall guard the guards --

Anyway enough paranoia on this stuff -- I'd rather have the Internet, Google, Microsoft, Amazon etc with all their faults than the old elephantine way we used to have to conduct business, go shopping, go travelling etc etc. From what I've seen in most current Govts these days I wouldn't put them in charge of a Prayer meeting in the Vatican or a sex session in a Brothel for example : UK total Govt paralysis due to Brexit Mess, Donald Trump dividing bitterly the USA, Merchel with German Right gaining ascendency due to hopeless immigration policies which need world wide solution, Hong Kong and China problems, Iran, middle east, Israel etc etc etc --

Anyway enough of that and I still prefer Firefox.

    Cheers

A Tech Expert Says Google Chrome Has Become Spy Software

...My tests of Chrome vs. Firefox unearthed a personal data caper of absurd proportions. In a week of Web surfing on my desktop, I discovered 11,189 requests for tracker "cookies" that Chrome would have ushered right onto my computer but were automatically blocked by Firefox. These little files are the hooks that data firms, including Google itself, use to follow what websites you visit so they can build profiles of your interests, income and personality.

Chrome welcomed trackers even at websites you would think would be private. I watched Aetna and the Federal Student Aid website set cookies for Facebook and Google. They surreptitiously told the data giants every time I pulled up the insurance and loan service's log-in pages.
And that's not the half of it.
Look in the upper right corner of your Chrome browser. See a picture or a name in the circle? If so, you're logged in to the browser, and Google might be tapping into your Web activity to target ads. Don't recall signing in? I didn't, either. Chrome recently started doing that automatically when you use Gmail.

    Google's Software is Malware

Malware means software designed to function in ways that mistreat or harm the user. (This does not include accidental errors.) This page explains how Google's software is malware.
Malware and nonfree software are two different issues. The difference between free software and nonfree software is in whether the users have control of the program or vice versa. It's not directly a question of what the program does when it runs. However, in practice nonfree software is often malware, because the developer's awareness that the users would be powerless to fix any malicious functionalities tempts the developer to impose some.

    Hi,
Already stated what censorship is again pushing their political agenda through search results

Wrong again Jimbo he didn't divide anything what he did was threaten the career politicians future they didn't exactly like that neither did either side of the aisle, boom so media helped a lot to side with accusers when they were doing all the dividing them selves
I remember the last pres said get into others face if they disagree with them he's the one that started dividing everyone

Not just Google, but about 30 thousands other companies, not to mention individuals. We laugh at work, when we see, hey look Lucy ordered "toys" again and so on, some people even share it further. Though it is true, that some people do not care about privacy, but it can make their life difficult later.
