its the 8648 still the best one out there?
Yep, it looks (rather sounds...) like a very good driver, the best one so far.
But it's worth mentioning that this statement is quite subjective. It's all up to personal listening preferences!

Hey guys, I am running on 8648 and yesterday I bought my first gaming headset (regular, not USB), when I plug it in it is not recognized, all i have is default speaker in devices, can't use my mic, so basically wasted my money, anyone knows a solution to this, obviously it is Windows 10 or Realtek problem. I have a Asus N76v laptop. I have the Bang & Olufsen ICEpower audio, but of course it does not work with this driver, or any tbh, after new Windows update. I used to have MaxxAudio Panel working but not anymore. Anyone can help me out? Thx

I recently found something unusual only with the 8683 FFxx HDA drivers (UAD drivers not affected).

It seems Realtek included the "APO Debug" reg entries in the HDXRT.inf file (AND all other INF files) of the 8683 WHQL HDA driver.

    [APODebug.AddReg]
    HKLM,%APO_DEBUG_REG%,SecureAudioEngineProcess,0x00010001,0x00000000
    HKLM,%APO_DEBUG_REG%,DisableProtectedAudioDG,0x00010001,0x00000001

normally these are only included in the beta or non-whql Realtek HDA drivers but it looks like Realtek forgot to remove them in 8683 WHQL (oopsie ). Realtek did however remove these "APO Debug" entries in 8688 & newer HDA drivers as I checked them myself.
a follow up on my previous post: it seems only the 8683 FF00 and FF01 versions have INF files like HDARt.inf & HDXRT.inf that have those APO Debug entries. higher FFxx versions like FF03 & FF04 do not have them.

since I already have 8683 installed on many of my PCs, I'll switch out from FF00/FF01 and install a higher FFxx versions like FF03 or FF04

8702 is well balanced, but the punch is a little softer that I prefer, but it is there(as compared to the punch you get with 8648)
Kick drum test is the same, the tone is perfect, but the punch/kick at the beginning(that split second where the B for the Boom is) of the tone is a little softened.
