Yeah, I don't think it's wise to buy a new board unless I'm building a new rig.
It's a days work to get setup with new Windows install etc.
I bought the AsRock z370 Extreme4 based on reviews, which were extremely good across numerous sites.
It has great VRM/power phases for the price, in fact better than some boards close to double the price.
I also don't want another ALC1220 board, since even the Asus z370 boards with the codec are having the same issues - all over the Asus forums.

BTW - Cliff, I noticed your signature shows a 9900k at 5.6ghz (well at least CPU-Z validation which is certainly no good indicator of a stable overclock as you know), but the voltage (vCore) shows at Zero?
What voltage were you running? What cooling do you have?
All cores at 5.6Ghz?
All 8 cores were running, I used the eXtreme validation, which doesn't show everything to keep resources down.
I think I was at 1.42v but I'm not sure anymore.
I have a very good chip though, as I have been able to benchmark using a +0.270 offset mode 5.2GHz for 1.312V: 2018 Hardware Thread [2] - Page 34 - Windows 10 Forums

Also confusing is the CPU-Z image shows an 'X Series' CPU, which the 9900k is not.
Yet the validation image is 9900K, not say 9900X

Correction:my 5.5656 was at 1.376V and I tried all the way up to 1.45V and it still wouldn't boot when baseclock was raised the allowed minimum of 0.040

If you can run P95/Realbench and are stable 5.6Ghz at 1.42v with good temps in everyday use/gaming, I would run that 24/7.
So much misinformation on what's considered safe voltage.
I always refer to DerBauer who openly states that with decent cooling (AIO is fine), it's perfectly fine to go to 1.42v on coffeelake for daily usage.
Will it cause the CPU to 'degrade' faster than stock voltages? Perhaps. But this word 'degradation' sounds scarier than it is.
We are talking over the course of 10-15 years and who keeps a computer more than 5 years between builds these days?

CPU-Z is not reputable if you are talking about everyday usage stability.
Realbench (asus tool as you know) is my gold standard for stability - stress test for an hour and I'm happy with that.
I have an i7 8086k (delidded and hand picked high binned CPU) which can show 5.4ghz at 1.3v in CPU-Z but will crash within seconds of starting Realbench :)

The problem with having too high OC's is, there is a point where you need to use the base clock to get higher, and that screws around with other system timings, and can cause micro stuttering in both sound and video(because of PCIe timings).
This is only something i do to run benchmarks, and get validations.

Agreed, I never touch BCLK because if you need to start playing with that to get stable, then you are in territory that likely isn't 100% stable for daily use.

Just ran latency mon and says I have issues.

I have tied latencymon before, but could never seem to wrap my brain around it.
I use other test for my system clocks, and mine are on point.

Just timer tests, like the one that come in CPU-Z or WinTimerTester, and the like.
