I just switched to UAD from an older HDA driver and I am noticing a radical change.
Basically the entire soundstage of my speakers and HD 598s is changed, the instruments feel more "spaced", vocals and drums are more subdued but clearer, guitars are much more pronounced.
It feels almost as if there was headphone virtualization turned on but I verified that everything is stock with no effects activated in the modern realtek panel.
I am not sure if I like it, this new sound staging has some advantages but also some drawbacks compared to the old HDA driver.
HDA drivers have had some minor changes over the years but they were all similar as far as soundstage goes.
Has anyone noticed the same change I reported in the HDA drivers as of late, or noticed the same change after switching from HDA to UAD?
I was running an HDA version from June before upgrading, I can't recall the specific version.
Guys,
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I really want to make sure. I have a Z370 HD3 motherboard with the Realtek ALC892 codec. Are the drivers in this thread sutable for this hardware?
Better to ask on the Station Driver Realtek Forum here :
Station-Drivers - [DRIVERS] Realtek High Definition Audio Codecs (HDA/UAD) - Page 23 - STATION-DRIVERS
Another good thread is the LaptopVideo2Go Realtek Thread too :

Hello! I've been coming to this thread every several months for a while now to obtain the latest Realtek HD audio drivers.
And now I am unfortunately lost; too much has changed. Things were so easy when they were just releasing HAD drivers, but now they have this UAD?
I just did a fresh install of Windows 10 (64-bit) on my desktop computer and would like to get the latest drivers. My HW ID for my Realtek HD Audio gives me a codec of ALC892 (HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_18495892&REV_1003) (and my board is ASRock Z170 Pro4s) which appears to be supported on the files downloadable at station-drivers.
- Should I try the UAD drivers, or stick to the HAD? How can I tell which is which? The first page of this thread gives three different links, and I'm not sure which one is appropriate for me to get, and I can't tell if those drivers are HAD or UAD. When I follow the links to the MUC, I just see a long list of files that all seem to have essentially the same name and file size. Are they all the same thing? When they DO have different file sizes, is that how to tell whether the file is HAD or UAD?
- Another point of confusion was the station-driver website. It seems like a lot of people here are reporting obtaining "the latest" driver from that site well before it gets to the MUC, but when I went to check their available downloads, I wasn't able to find any of the most recent drivers (like from 8509 on).
- I also see people talk about Nahimic or Crystal or MaxxAudio, and I see driver downloads on that website that are specific to those pieces of software. I don't run any 3rd party audio software; how do I obtain just "regular" drivers that aren't specific to other software?
- Windows has installed audio drivers for me. I should probably remove those before I install Realtek drivers, correct? What's the best way to do that?
- Last question: I've seen people talk about a Realtek UWP. What exactly is that? Is that the Realtek HD Audio Manager that shows up as an orange speaker icon in my system tray? Or is it related to the newer UAD drivers? Is it related to the "Realtek Audio Control" app that Brink mentions on the first page?
Thank you for the help! I am amazed at the fund of knowledge you guys have when it comes to even the little intricacies of driver installation!
Placebos are complicated. Trying out that UAD Generic Driver. It installed, UWP Panel works.
The sound... I don't know? Maybe it's better?
1.and 2.) The HDA Drivers are usually 139-140mb while the UAD ones can be as small as 13-14mb but are usually in the 30mb size zone. On newer hardware UAD can be used but most of the MUC Drivers don't contain the FULL file list needed as there are software Dependencies and software components seen in Device Manager, UAD won't work without them AFAICT. So get the latest Drivers from the SD FORUM (link in my post above) not their HW Drivers Site.
3. Nahimic , Crystal, and MAXX are sound addons for different manufacturers MB and Laptops , so it would depend on what AsRock supports if anything? The Full Generic Drivers are the FF_00 ones on SD , they sometimes have a DTS addon too, like FF00_DTS.
4. Most Sound drivers replace the M$ ones without difficulty in my experience, if you remove and reboot M$ will just reinstall them before you can even click the installer from Realtek on reboot.
5. UWP is the Windows App that takes over from the Realtek Sound Applet found in Control Panel IF you are using UAD Drivers. Nahimic also has one , both come from the Windows Store , not the MB Maker usually , not sure they are allowed by M$ to distribute them?
Hopefully I mostly have that all right :) ..........had to do a bit of reading of late myself....
