I've tried all the last three releases out but have just gone back to build 8648. A good solid bass and clear midrange and top, that's where I'm staying for now

MoKiChU the driver update poster at ROG forums just posted this:
Hi,
This is the latest version, Realtek has decided to change the naming syntax of its drivers by moving .1 at the end of the naming (probably in order to give the possibility to deploy, if necessary, minor versions .2, .3 etc, in order to fix minor bugs without deploying major versions).
I have a bug with windows default sound system tray icon appearing with a red cross (Audio Service is not running) but it's a false one. My sound is fine. This happens on windows startup sometimes. And if I restart windows explorer its getting fixed. It's very annoying. I had this happening with my laptop for ages. Now it is happening on my PC as well. I think its related to Realtek audio drivers. I have tried multiple versions though. Anyone can suggest a fix for that?
My Realtek drivers:
The Hardware ID of the Audio device is: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_104385B6&REV_1003
The Audio CODEC is : ALC0892
The Audio device is controlled by Realtek Audio driver version 6.0.1.8186 with no integration (Generic)
The legacy HDA driver needed for this Audio device is FF00
I will revert to my PC manufacturer suggested ones for the 100th time... (without getting my problem fixed):
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/D...626.1527148255
Windows 10 install: Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - MEDIA - 5/31/2016 12:00:00 AM - 6.0.1.7836 which are these: http://download.windowsupdate.com/c/...ac7cdcd530.cab
I reverted back to the windows update ones at the moment.
It's a known glitch which I'm trying to figure out for ages. It seems like a services startup problem. Realtek messes with windows startup services timers or something. Any ideas?

Haha despite the fact they'll still release a new version every 4 days!

Would the clean install steps help you at all? I've followed these when messing around with various versions and it always helps me start with a clean slate.
[DRIVERS] Realtek HD Audio (HDA))
hello guys i'm new here. i have a newbie question . what is the best driver for my realtek alc892 , i have a gigabyte b360m aoros gaming 3 motherboard. i have seen in the first post that the latest driver is HDA DRIVER VERSION: 6.0.1.8652 , but read in some posta that there is also an UAD version of the driver , which one is best for me?
I guess I did, not sure maybe I was leaving something out. I inplace upgraded today. Bug hasn't appeared yet. If it does I will retry with clean install. I think Realtek drivers somehow screw up my system if I try update them. Uninstalling breaks system tray sound icon, or the timings at startup. So for now I will stick with windows update Realtek drivers and never touch them again as long as bug doesn't come back...
Boot up is slow as hell now too. Maybe that's why I haven't seen the bug yet. Will try speed up with Windows Performance Toolkit and then will see if its truly fixed.
This bugs me for ages on laptop, and lately on PC too
Because of my involvement last weekend in the trivia contest, I didn't try any other driver.
I'm still happily plugging away with 8648 on my ancient system, and based upon what I am reading, not going to change, either.
Those videos that Cliff posted, particularly the second ... metalcore? one - yeah, I could most definitely feel the bass enveloping my head using my Astro A40s. I can also feel it very, very well in listening to all the Prodigy tunes I've been listening too, as well as Miss Monique's MidngGames PodCast hour long mix.
Until something comes along that several people confirm is simply much more robust than 8648, I'm sticking to it.
