Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version

  1.    #2141

I need a little help. I've just updated my Realtek driver from 6.0.1.7586 (from 2015) to the latest one which my motherboard manufacturer recommends (Asus G11CD/H110) which is 6.0.1.8514, but the sound is now muffled and doesn't sound good at all, the volume has increased too but mainly it just sounds muffled and maybe a little distorted. I reverted the driver back to the previous one in device manager and rebooted the system but it still sounded terrible. I then tried a system restore which worked and the sound was great again, but now windows has updated automatically to the latest driver again (7586) and the sound is now terrible again.

It would seems like the latest driver has maybe installed something on my system which is messing with the sound and is not being removed when reverting back to the old driver. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I'd really appreciate anyone's help.

Is 6.0.1.7586 the original driver on your PC? If so, try locating it in the Program Files folder in C:\
Usually it should have a Setup file. Click on that Setup file and let it run. It will wipe out what you have now and re-install your original driver.

Then you would have to find a suitable driver to update from the original one. Hopefully someone here can help you with the right one for your Asus model.

Yes 7586 was the original driver. I've located it in C but when I try to run the setup nothing happens.

Ok I figured it out. It was a program called ICEpower which was installed with the new driver. It had sound effects on as default.

what would happen if you uninstalled ICEPower (or ICESound) thru the Programs and Features control panel?

just use the sound effects options from the Realtek HD Audio Manager control panel.

Speaking of Realtek HD Audio Manager, Cliff S mentioned an issue regarding the KB4489899 update for Windows 10 v1809 and Realtek HD Audio Manager here.

I'm still waiting for an HDA driver in the 8650s - should be happening by the end of this week

I use Pink Floyd-Money for testing, have a feeling it uses full sound spectrum and above/under hearing range. Ripped from original CD and in lossless flac.

    KB, Mike,
My reference for years, was The Chain, by Fleetwod Mac, which as Mike said, was ripped to flac from the CD and remastered in Adobe Audition to 16 LUFS (I've always been against the loudness war).
But testing exhaustively 8648, I saw this Dire Straits tune, which reminded me my high school years. It's from a vinyl and I think that it gave my cans a run for their money... I'm know ripping it from the CD, to try it from a flac too.

    Love Dire Straits!
    And yes, 8648 sounds wicked.
