Actually I posted a little while back that Microsoft does not support using Device Manager anymore to uninstall & install any 3rd party drivers(either this thread or the UAD one).

It can still be done, but generally with less than satisfactory results.

It's recommended to use an installer/uninstaller.

I see. So is this how everyone in this thread installs new Realtek HD drivers? By using the 'Add or Remove Programs' screen? Strange that I saw no mention it before, and that all methods seemed to involve the Device Manager!

Thanks though. I'll test this out when I'm at my home PC again.

Some still use Device Manager, but to each his own

DDU which can also uninstall sound drivers too and clean leftovers which no other method can and is free and portable.

Tried the latest HDA DRIVER VERSION: 6.0.1.8619 for 3 days.

Overall very flat sounding. Also noticed a bug in Firefox where a small Realtek volume meter would randomly pop-up in the upper left of the screen which would raise the audio level. Never saw that before.

Back to my previous favorites: 8544

Hey guys, can you help me with some info please, I have a microphone connected and using the latest UWP drivers, in the new Realtek Control Panel there are two volumes for the Microphone, one says Playback volume, and one says Recording volume, if I lower the Recording volume or mute it it mutes or lowers the mic volume overall in all apps, but I cant figure out what the Playback volume is, muting or lowering it has no apparent effect in anything?

What is this Microphone playback volume slider ?

    Thanks

The playback volume for the microphone is for when you ever turn on the "listen to this device" Windows setting. In other words, the volume of what would play on the speakers from the microphone. I always zero and mute the mic playback settings myself so I never accidentally hear feedback from the mic, e.g.

Well for me, settings the microphone to "listen to this device" and muting or changing the Microphone Playback volume slider has no impact, nothing changes, only when chaning the Microphone Recording slider. Can you test this and report back if its the same to you? I'm using driver version 8573
    Thanks
