There is both a hotkey utility and a patch for it

These are rated to Win 8, 32 and 64 bits.
Try installing them in compatibility mode. However, there will be no guarantee of compatibility of course.
The special keys are by no means essential. For example, I typically control my volume using a 3rd party utility (free) with my scroll wheel (mute and vol. up and down).
