There is both a hotkey utility and a patch for it
    https://thinkpads.com/support/Thinkp...ddfm/T60p.html

These are rated to Win 8, 32 and 64 bits.

Try installing them in compatibility mode. However, there will be no guarantee of compatibility of course.

The special keys are by no means essential. For example, I typically control my volume using a 3rd party utility (free) with my scroll wheel (mute and vol. up and down).

Note the comment here: you may need to install something else as well:

Re: T60 thinkvantage key working, but volume buttons not working
2009-06-04, 7:49 AM I worked it out! I needed to install the lenovo system interface driver
Also came across this, but I certainly don't understand it so just for interest- sounds similar:

    Dear @spapakons and @dalchina,
I am currently testing several drivers for hotkey features.
I'll cross my tests with your recomandations and keep you informed in 2 or 3 weeks.

Remember to uninstall an old utility before trying a newer one to avoid conflicts. Still best source is manufacturer's support site with exact P/N or S/N (not just look for T60, there are tens of variations).

    Hello all,
First of all, happy new year to every one !

@Dalchina indeed these buttons are not essentials. But I would still love all my buttons to work on my T60 . The last link you provided me on linux platform is exactly the issue I face (for information).
    @spapakons the drivers are exactly the same for all T60 / T60p / Z60.

So, know let's share my last information :

I have tested three versions of the Lenovo official HotKey Features Integration driver on Windows 10 20H2 (32bits) on my ThinkPad T60 :
    - 8mvu33ww v3.52.0001
    - 8jvu23ww v3.81.0100
    - 8jvu43ww v3.89.0100
Between each instalation, I uninstalled the previous one. For each installation, I installed Incrustration + Lenovo interface Driver.

The result is the same than at the begining : the volume control works as it goes up or down but it is not recognised by Windows : the "lenovo" volume indication on the screen is displayed but the "windows" indication is not and mainly the windows indicator in the taskbar does not move.

After all it is full usable now... I would have prefered a correct synchronization between the windows taskbar and the volume but this is not blocking at all. I have hidden the volume indicator in taskbar. I won't worry about that anymore as long as they work.

Again, thank you everyone for your help. I hope this post will allow anyone to save time in the future !

If I understand correctly, you see a custom Lenovo volume indicator on screen instead of the Windows default indicator. The volume buttons get the volume lower or higher. This is perfectly normal. Some manufacturers replace standard interface elements with their custom equivalents. As long as it works, there is nothing more you can do.

    Hello spapakons.
The behavior is exactly what you wrote.
However, this is not the normal behavior for ThinkPads of this generation in their "normal" OS (windows XP, Vista and 7) : Both volumes were linked (custom indicator and windows indicator).
    Have a good afternoon !
