Failure in Sending Music Folder to External Hard Drive

Hello. I'm trying to send my Music Folder named Extra Storage D to my external hard drive, however, it keeps stopping with an unexpected error message, Error 0x80028CA0: Type mismatch. But I just looked this up on Google, and it's telling me:

If you encounter the Error 0x80028CA0: Type mismatch after you update your Windows, you can try uninstalling the latest updates to fix this error. To do that, you just need to open the Windows Update window, click View update history, and then click Uninstall updates.Aug 17, 2023
So, now I'm supposed to uninstall an update, which is supposed to protect my computer? Really?
Therefore, can anyone help me out with this?

Is this the Windows user system (My) Music folder or a folder called My Music that you have created yourself?

If so, this file can't just be moved, it has to be relocated. But moving a user system folder to an external drive can have consequences on the system.

Best way would be to simply move the contents, not the folder itself.

Hi, idgat. I'm not sure if I've heard of the Windows user system (My) Music folder, but a repairman added a new partition to my computer for the purpose of holding my music files, which was called Extra Storage (D). And what I was trying to do was send the Music folder under that partition to my external hard drive (i.e. "Send to"). Plus, I've been doing this for years in order to update new songs into my external hard drive, therefore, I don't quite understand why there is now an error in trying to do this now.

And I would post a screen shot of what's going on, but now my Microsoft Paint 3D won't launch.

The (My) Music folder is part of the collection of user system folders created during the installation of Windows - Downloads, Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos . The "My" component of the name used to be for previous versions but some users still insist on calling them that.

Check to see whether you still have a Music folder under C:\Users\(your user name). Right click on it > Properties > Location tab, and note the path. If it's C:\Users\(your user name)\Music then that's the system Music folder still in situ, and the folder at D:\ is just a user added folder for convenience.

Moving user files like music, pictures and videos to extra storage is a common practice and helps keep the C:\ system drive from over-filling (also a common problem for the unsuspecting)

The "Send to" you now clarify as using is not for that type of transferring files, that's why there is an error. "Send to" doesn't work for that sort of task. You need to Copy/Cut > Paste

Under the Location folder, all that it says is that the files are in the D:\ folder.

I see. So, I must have read some wrong information advising me to do that. But I will try and copy those files to my external hard drive. However, I'm not quite seeing how I can copy the contents of my D:\ drive into my external hard drive.

That would suggest the user system folder Music itself has been relocated (the official terminology/process) to the D: drive. There is nothing wrong with that and frequently a good idea for backing up user system folders

However, I'm not quite seeing how I can copy the contents of my D:\ drive into my external hard drive.
Assuming you're in Windows Explorer, select (highlight) the files to be moved. Click the Copy icon in the Windows Explorer toolbar. Go to the destination location, click the Paste icon in the toolbar. Once the process has successfully completed, you can delete the files that were copied, from the D:\ drive (if you want to)

You must also consider how you're going to back up your files in case of drive failure.

    Yes.

Yes, I had looked it up and the contents of the D folder are in the process of being pasted into the external hard drive. And hopefully there won't be anymore complications involved.

Also, thank you for your time and your help.
