    HELP - Audio Issue

    Hello,
I am new to this Forum.
I have an AUDIO issue and am NOT a computer geek so I can't figure our what is going on.
    So, here is the issue.
Just put a new SSD in my Lenovo Laptop.
    Loaded Windows 10 Pro.
Pulled over all of my files, etc. Everything back to normal...EXCEPT
My AUDIO wasn't allowing the sound to come through the speakers.
Clicked on 'Troubleshooter' for audio, I agreed to let it check the system DID hear the 'BEEP',
went back to the audio I was playing, everything OK!!!!
Next day, same thing...no audio, troubleshooter fixed it again.
    Next day, same thing.
Went to Device Manager and uninstalled the audio, restarted the computer, audio was reinstalled ok,
Thought the problem was solved, BUT, the same issue keeps occurring.
Either Troubleshoot OR reinstall makes the audio work, then it stops.
Drivers have been updated and hardware update was confirmed.
SO, any suggestions what is going on????

Thanks for your time and assistance.
    Paul

Go into your profile and fill out 'system specs', so we may better assist you.

Be sure to fully update Windows.

    Run SFC/ scannow tool.

Go back into Device Manage uninstall audio/ sound driver/s, while there click on VIEW, tap 'show hidden drivers'. see if any problems there as well.

Go to your computer manufacturers website, use the 'scan my device' to check for any driver needed, then download them.

Try using the audio driver provided there.

As said, it's important to know the age/model of your laptop, and for which version of Windows it has drivers.

One possibility may be that you don't have the appropriate driver, and may need to use the driver provided for that laptop for and older O/S.

    Loaded Windows 10 Pro.
The forum prompted you for your Windows build number e.g.19045.4170 (why? - so we don't have to keep asking).

    Ok,
Just looked this up in System:
    Windows 10 Pro
    Version 22H2
    OS build 19045.4170

Not sure what all this means but glad that I found it.

    Thanks, that's the current build.

Your laptop seems to be from around 2013. Assuming it has no support for Win 10, any issues with Win 10 are therefore up to you to resolve of course, as there's no guarantee of correct performance.

If it needs any specialist drivers for dedicated keys, fingerprint reader etc - you'd most likely need to download those manually from Lenovo.

Please download and install the appropriate audio driver - latest available for it on Lenovo's site.
If that solves your problem, you will probably need to protect it by stopping Windows updating it. (Tutorial available)

Can you post its driver page please? (Look it up on Google).

The problem is the Audio service not starting.

Running the Troubleshooter starts the service, that is part of what it does so cannot analyse the problem.

Other ways of starting the Audio service:
    1. Simply use the Function keys Audio Up/Down buttons.
    2. Task Manager > Services Tab
Look for the "Audiosrv" (Windows audio) service > Select > Right click > Start.

The problem is in the start up services, other startups interfering or the order that they are started.

To change the startup services involves:
    1. configuring applications, minimizing what appears in the bottom right system area of the Taskbar to the essentials.
    2. Minimizing enabled items in the Startup Tab of the Task Manager.
    3. Changing the start-up speed
Right click Start > Power options > Additional power settings > Choose what the power button does
Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable"
Normally the setting is ticked for Fast start-up. You can untick that > Save changes, which is a slower start-up with more checks.
Keep that setting for a while, you can return it later.

Point 1. is probably the most useful, That involves you in checking settings in each installed application.

Possible, but not known for certain.

It would be helpful to know what the troubleshooter shows as the problem/what was fixed. Examine its report carefully.

And check when you have no sound what the status of the service is.

    My Update

Went to the Lenovo site and entered my Ser. No.
Ran all the updates for my computer.
This morning, I had to use the troubleshooter for sound to get volume.
The troubleshooter doesn't list the issues that it fixed or changed.
Looked at Task Mgr., but not able to do much there.
I know this is something little, but haven't figured it out yet.
Thanks for all of the advice.
Some of which I understand, some not.

If unclear, often Google can help...

    1. When you have no sound again, look here: (services.msc)
    HELP - Audio Issue-1.jpg
    - check if it's running and what the startup conditions are.

(Or use the Task Manager, Services tab to see if it's running- won't tell you the startup conditions, so services.msc is better).

    2. Troubleshooter.
The troubleshooter doesn't list the issues that it fixed or changed.
    Look here carefully:
    HELP - Audio Issue-1.jpg

Towards the bottom, when you see this, click 'View Detailed Information'

    Now look here:
    HELP - Audio Issue-1.jpg
Scroll thru this and look to see what it fixed.

    3. Have you downloaded the last audio driver on Lenovo's site for your PC?

    Post screenshots as appropriate. Thanks.

These are some simple things to look at.

When you have No sound, before using the troubleshooter.

Task Manager > Services Tab > Sort the name column(clicking on the column title).

    Look for "Audiosrv" and "AudioEndpointBuilder".

In the Status column are they running or not ?
