Headphones stopped working after driver update.

Lenovo G50-70, Conexant Smart Audio HD, Win 10 Home 22H2.

I updated the audio driver to try to fix a problem with output on HDMI device, and the laptop headphone output no longer works. The sound troubleshooter says that it can't find the problem. The OEM driver still works for the laptop audio, but not for the HDMI monitor/TV.

Hi, if you want to get back to where you were, the easiest option would be to use a System Restore point created before this.

    Lenovo G50-70
    - from 2014

    - so I'm wondering where you got the update from... ?

I got the update from MicroSoft through the settings app.

On my system, reinstalling the OEM driver would be faster than System Restore.

    Hi gregyurkon,

What is the default sound device under Control Panel > Sound > Playback?

    Kind regards,

Given that the recommended manufacturer's driver is dated 2016

it seems a little obscure that MS offers an update.

What is the version of the one you are using, compared to that?

but not for the HDMI monitor/TV
    Do you mean...
    'has never worked'
    or
    'no longer works'?

Have you checked the HDMI input to the TV works and the cable is ok?

The OEM file version is the same, but the monitor is only a few years old.

As far as the MS driver, I installed it earlier today, and the monitor output behaves the same as with the old OEM driver. (I restarted Windows twice.)

As far as the laptop, with the OEM driver, it works fine, but with the MS driver there's no sound with the headphones plugged in, but VU meters, volume control, etc. say that the sound is normal.

Re. "has never..." vs. "no longer...", the MS issue on the laptop seems to be new, and the issues with the monitor seem to be Insignia's fault.

Thanks- returning to the HDMI issue that started this- it seems there's no evidence that the laptop's HDMI output is working, or that you can use the HDMI input of the display device.

Personally, I'd start there and eliminate the unknowns.

The HDMI was working fine with the old monitor (RIP), and the glitchy behavior of the new one seems like a software/firmware issue.

Ah, so the HDMI problem started when you swapped monitors... i.e. the laptop was ok at that point...

Yes. I'm pretty sure that the problem is the specific HDMI device, not HDMI in general.
