Advanced app audio output selections keep needing reset

    Windows version 22H2 19045.4046

This isn't a super big deal and is more of a minor annoyance but I would like to see if anyone has any advise on this matter.

I have a GoXLR that provides me with multiple audio output device channels that I use for different applications and games. In Windows 10's Sound settings there are Advanced sound options where I can select the audio output for each individual application that is open.

    Problem:
Even though the settings that I select do save for each individual application, their behavior does not.

In other words, using the game Valheim as an example, if I set Valheim to output audio to "Channel 2," it will output to "Channel 2" in that instance. But when I close and restart Valheim, even though the settings are still visibly set to output on "Channel 2," the audio will actually be output on "Channel 1" (which is default behavior). This is despite the fact that it is displaying that it is set to "Channel 2."

To fix it, I have to go to the Advanced sound options every time I want to play a game and change the output from the correct output, to an incorrect output and then back to the correct output. Only then will it kick in and start playing on the correct channel.

I'm wondering why this happens and why I need to keep resetting it every time despite it obviously saving the setting.

    Additional info:
This happens for most games that I play. There are some exceptions. For instance, the game PUBG, which I have set up the exact same way as all my game audio outputs, will play on the correct channel output even after restarting.

Does anyone have any ideas on why this happens?

Hi, you may find this free program useful:
View / change sound volume on Windows from command line or GUI

It lets you set up different sound profiles - combinations of settings.
