    Why does a playback sometimes stuttter for a second


    Win 10 22H2 Build 19045.3570

    Every now and then when I playback a wav or mp3 through VLC, Media Player etc. it will stop for a sec then continue.

    It's just started recently but can't recall anything I have added to cause it.

    I have looked in Task Manager to watch to see what happens but can you tell me what could the cause and how I can fix.

    What sort of storage do you have? If its a spinning disk you may need to de-frag.

    HI.\,

    Thanks for the reply.

    The HD is fine, defragged and plenty of space.. 580GB free on 1TB disc.

    Somehow I'm thinking some script somewhere kicking in. May have nothing to do with the audio, just something diverting power.

    If it were Windows 1809 and USB audio, I'd blame 1809. Since it is not, I suspect some cpu intensive program running. Virus scanner? Any Windows that has not been at least tweaked/debloated a bit will do that just from Windows services. System Restore, Defender, Diagnostic Policy Service, File Protection/backup, etc. etc. etc. etc.

    Keep Task Manager open and one eyeball on it until it happens and see what grabbed/spiked the CPU?
