    Welcome to tenforums.

Would you care to share which update that was? (See your Update History).

Have you tried uninstalling it to see if sound reverts to normal?

The most recent updates were a Windows Update AND a net framework update.

Confirm you have not had any relevant driver updates. (Bottom of Update History- and see Device Manager).

Which Dell model is your laptop? (Compare my specs - click My Computers below my post).

    About how old is it?

You could always give "driver rollback" a shot in device manager. I don't use it but at least it's built into windows.
A shot from my laptop. Right click\Properties\Driver Tab

Depends if a driver update was installed 'yesterday'... without knowing that..

If by Windows Update that should appear in Update History... see my post above - which also mentioned reviewing Device Manager.

Agreed. Seems logical though. I use Driver Store Explorer. It will show everything you need to know. Dangerous in the wrong hands however

Sadly driver roll back is not an option because its a corporate device

Find the sound device in Device Manager, right-click it, select "Update driver", then select "Browse my computer for drivers", then click "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer". If more than one driver is shown, select one that isn't highlighted and click "Next". You may have to restart the computer for the change to take effect.
