iTunes Help? very slow importing songs

I recently got a newer desktop with Win 10 installed Version 10.0 19044.(my previous desktop was Win 7)
Just tried to import a few songs from a CD to iTunes and the downloading time is extremely slow! It takes almost the same time as the length of the song itself to import! On my old desktop a 3 or 4 min song would import in seconds.
I just installed the newest itunes Version today (12.12.8.2)
google told me to try exempting the iTunes folder from my virus scans, which I did, but it didn't help. google also mentioned doing same for any media or import folders, but I couldn't figure out how to find them. (I'm not too technically-inclined)
Any help with this would be appreciated so I can get back to adding some music. Thank you.

There are better options than iTunes for doing this, you have to rip the CD's before moving the songs to a playlist in iTunes/Apple Music.

    thanks.
all I want to do is transfer(or whatever the correct term is...) selected songs from my CDs onto my little ipod shuffle.
    what are the "better options"?

As for the iTunes speed, I keep an old version because it requires less memory, less space, and runs faster consuming less resources in general. Keep in mind the reading speed affects the conversion, so, if the cds are kind of dirty or old, the whole process will also be slow.

As for iTunes alternatives to transfer music to your iPod Shuffle, em... I suggest you keep using your iTunes, or any other conversion program and still manage your transfer via iTunes. I had too many issues with this in the past (using other software), some were good, but discontinued, some good but had to pay, some with too many errors, etc., I lost track of the options, iTunes works better in that sense (to transfer music).

I was quite happy with the way things worked with my old Win 7 desktop, and the older version of itunes. that's progress I guess!

No because those songs are kept in a library in your profile.

which version of itunes seems to work best in WIN 10?

    UPDATE:
I tried a couple more CDs , after the first one. The slowness problem seems to be random, from CD to CD- songs on some CDs import quickly , in seconds; on other CDs it can take forever. Not sure what's going on. As mentioned, I don't seem to recall having this problem with itunes in the past, so I might just revert back to an older version of itunes & see how it goes.

I have the old green one, iTunes 6.0 (32 bits) on my Windows 10x64 bits desktop, runs really cool. Have some other versions on my backup disk for reasons I no longer remember... perhaps some compatibility thing, I don't know. You could check your CDs or your drive, perhaps needs cleaning.

Regarding the file transfers to the iPod shuffle, this same iTunes version used to work pretty well with my iPod around those past years. I no longer have it, so I can't check if things still work, but you could try.

Just FYI, since the end of 2022 I removed my CD/DVD drive placing a HDD caddy instead, so it's been a while since the last time I imported songs. I don't meant to sound like promoting piracy, not at all, but I already have the music I like, and some new I download it from Youtube (via a converter). Some bands or musicians that I like provide their content for free (even in mp3), so there is no need for CDS or conversions, just downloading. And others are just a penny away to get the digital format.

UPDATE: as suggested above, I just uninstalled the latest version of itunes & tried to install an older version- Version 12.10.11 for windows 64-bit.
I got this error message:"The file iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes"

    Now what??*♂️
