Microphone totally disabled across the board by WeChat for Windows.

My mic works well on every app, Facebook, Skype, Zoom etc. and if I look at the audio settings and test it there all works fine too. All apps that need the mic have been given permission including WeChat. However, once I try to use the mic on WeChat nothing works. Go to other apps and no mic. Go to Sound settings and not mic, etc. I reboot and all works fine again but go on WeChat again and the problem starts anew requiring a reboot. How can WeChat do such a thing and how can this problem be solved? WeChat Help truly sucks as they take over a week to reply--based on recent experience. And their help pages or FAQs do not list this problem.

    Hello @pintree3,

I have noticed that you have NOT had ANY replies, so I thought that I would try and help.

I do NOT use WeChat myself, but it certainly appears to be something within WeChat itself that is initially turning off or disabling the mic.

    As a start . . .

    - Is there anything associated [ visible ] with the mic on the WeChat screen when loaded or within the WeChat Settings?
    - Are there any other options or such like in the menu that you could look at and investigate ?

    I hope this helps.

Thanks Paul Black. Yup no replies so I had given up. Further trials showed that the problem was not with WeChat alone but all other VOIPs (DingTalk, WhatsApp, Skype, ...). Spent hours with Microsoft techs and got nowhere. I finally solved the problem myself by going into Realtek and change the settings there. (Separate all input jacks as separate input devices--even though a mic is not an input but my mic is via a webcam). Such a problem never existed before hence it must have something to do with Windows 10 latest update.
    Thanks again Paul Black
P.S. Why it seemed to have worked on other VOIPs may have been because I had rebooted or something or other, hence had not tested them properly and fully.

Well thank you too It would be nice knowing what caused it though. Such a weird never-experienced-before problem: at least not this way.
