    Hi there

There are many options for a sound booster for W10 however since I do not use one I can not recommend a singular option. But have you checked out this article?

8 Best Sound Volume Boosters for Windows

Don't know if it can be classed as a volume booster, but the only one I have used is Eartrumpet which is fantastic for adjusting the audio of separate apps.

Wish you the best in finding a program for you,

    James

Please bear in mind that PC audio of itself is limited to a certain range. That is, if you 'boost' using PC features, instead of getting louder music, you begin to get distorted music (clipping). Imagine a sine wave with the top and bottom peaks chopped off.

If you need more, consider external ampification.

Yes, physical hardware is always the way to go here. It's like a Macos virtual machine performance vs real hardware. The OS will run, and work, but not to a full standard that shows the capability

    Hello @ImLost,

I do NOT think that you will get the kind of amplification that you will probably require or need, therefore, I recommend you looking into a pair of plug-in USB speakers. There are quite a variety [ Watts ] available.

    I hope this helps.

I fouled something up poking around before. then tried installing FxSound, wasnt loud enough, but now when I uninstall it, I have no sound at all, must have poked the wrong spot before I installed FX? like I said, Im not a techie, should not have 'poked' around before. have to keep FX installed to have some sound. and that is fouled up, when I double click it to adjust things/make louder, etc, it wont come up, nothing happens.

    Hello @ImLost,

Have a look at this because your default setting might NOT be as you require . . .

Also, have a look at the Related Tutorials at the BOTTOM of the above Tutorial [ there are a few ], as they may also be helpful.

    I hope this helps.

If you have a recent System Restore point, you could use that to get back to where you were.

Paul - there was only one choice to click on...besides the FX (?)...I did, I got the sound back. for some reason, it still listed the FX that I had tried before, even thou I uninstalled it from the control panel.

dalchina - are system restore points made automatically by the computer, or do ya have to intentionally make them

But as a old norwegian proverb is saying: "You wouldn't get milk from a wooden cow" (free translation to anglosaxian..)
You could give this a try of course...
    Equalizer APO download | SourceForge.net

Select your speakers under the Configurator window that will pop-up while installing.
    Restart your computer.
Go to the location where you installed the software.
    Select the “Config” folder.
Open the config text document. Delete everything in the file.
Type the following into the document: Preamp: +10 dB
    Click Save.
