if fxsound is more of an 'equalizer' for base and treble, be nice if they said that. looking at their ad, their big point is them saying you get a big volume boost. the first two words, in big letters is "Boost Volume"

[QUOTE=ImLost;2503387]dalchina, you mean the fxsound is mostly to get good bass/treble/tone, etc, then extrnl spkrs for a lot of extra volume?

    /QUOTE]

I have said that several times, I believe, from the beginning and pointed out the absolute limit of the max sound you can get from your PC into a passive device like basic headphones,

As for disk imaging- see the videos, read. Everyone has to learn how to do things, I'm afraid.

No defence of them- I'm not interested in that- but there is a 'Volume Boost' - it simply moves ALL the sliders up a notch once, maybe 3dB?

Then there are treble and bass boosts. Not enough to be significant.

FxSound does seem to boost volume. I tried it last night and whereas I usually have laptop volume at 28 (with headphones) I turned it down to 20 and it was just as loud, maybe even a little louder than I'm used to. Tried listening to music and watching a movie. Used presets and it was surprisingly good.

fouled something up just now trying to reply, lost it somewhere.
got a small increase. being easy to do, I'll settle for it instead of making a bigger mess. when I tried fx before, desktop icon wouldnt bring it up to adjust it, same as now, didnt know was also an icon hidden in taskbar. other desktop icons work.

next, go to ext spkrs if it seems I need more volume, I see some are plug in to both usb and ear jack, some just usb, some wireless is there some type of formula based on watts vs watts of laptop to help choose the right 'size'?

No- it's just an audio input to a device.

Plug the right audio output from your PC into an amplifier, and you can have 500W if you really wanted..

Or you could use Bluetooth speakers or headphones- so communication is via Bluetooth wireless- nothing to do with audio W and impedance matching.

You can have passive speakers powered by an amp, or a couple of smaller speakers with built-in amplifier, volume and tone controls for example.

Lots of choices. Consider whether you want
    - headphones or speakers
    - wired or wireless.

only get a little extra volume the regular way, but w/earphone bud in the jack, it's actually too loud, can barely get slider down low enough on laptop screen when a volume slider shows, as in watching a tv channel. played around, must be the way it is, being much louder in earbud. dont like using earbud in my 'good' ear (deaf in one ear), makes it tough to hear phone, door knock, smoke alarm, usually nobody else home. same w/headphone muffs. maybe ext speakers boost it more, enough to not need earphones.

I'm no doctor, but I don't think earbuds are a good idea if you have ear problems.

Sound coming from a speaker (or earbud) obeys the inverse square law - when the speaker is 2X away it is 1/4 the volume. That means putting a sound source right inside your ear can result in very high volume. See graph

I use a 2.1 speaker system 2 * 25W. The 2.1 means 2 small treble speakers + one bass woofer on the floor. It has a headphone socket. It's about as loud as a loud hi-fi. If you buy something like mine, beware of manufacturers using made-up sound volume units like 'peak power' to 'big up' their product. For a real comparison look for RMS (root mean squared).
