I once read a thread where the person had damaged their laptop speakers using VLC media player - VLC output can go up to 200%.

I don't think boosting the OP's laptop volume using software is a good idea. I'd go for external powered speakers.

You still have this opportunity, you know. Seriously!
The thing is though that Equalizer APO actually works with my smart TV. It detects it and the sound adjustment is far better than what is available via the TV's controls.

Plug in an amplifier and speakers would work great especially if the amp has tone controls built in. I use that for playing music/ watching films if not listening via headphones.

Im just getting more confused, dont want to drag this out, even longer, what I thought would be an easy thing.
Maybe try the apo thing, hope I dont make things worse, or then try external speaker.

reminds me of not having any type of 'back up'....something I dread trying to do (again)
I looked way back, I put everybody thru hell doing macrium back up thing. somehow I dont have it now. been in/out hospital past few years, relative here, playing w/comp, about same 'techie' level as me (none). somehow end up missing bunch of stuff. last year, comp went nuts, ready to buy another (usual for me). pokin buttons one last time, got lucky, and it came up. and I was still too dumb to make a backup fixer upper if it crashes again. probably because I dread the thought of doing it, asking you all to walk me thru it again. but I better b4 luck runs out, again.

Callender, I just tried to download that, I never got that big white screen like you showed, got couple of small dark ones, said to install/make changes. after download, I went to taskbar to 'file explorer' ? and opened download folder, found it, dbl clicked it,
did "next/yes/install", etc....then stranded. got scared, did uninstall in control panel.
guess thats an example of my techie level, so many boxes and questions, "im lost".

Ok hold on. What did you download?

    You need this:

    Equalizer APO download | SourceForge.net

After you've installed it also install Peace GUI addon.

Peace Equalizer, interface Equalizer APO download | SourceForge.net

Once installed go to this folder:

    C:\Program Files\EqualizerAPO

In that folder there is a file named editor.exe

Click the file to run it.

    You see:

Then exit that window and run the file named configurator.exe (right click it and choose run as administrator)

    Choose playback devices (Speakers/ Headphones)

    Close that window.

Turn up your volume and get some music playing.

    Then launch Peace.

    "C:\Program Files\EqualizerAPO\config\Peace.exe"

The main slider at the top controls gain. Move it and you should hear the volume get louder. If it doesn't check that you have selected "All Devices"

Once done click the save button and save the preferences file somewhere.

When happy with volume and with configuration saved click "Done"

That's all. No need to touch it again or run the program unless you want to make changes.

You said that you didn't install it.

    If you did install it:

The "yellow boxes with red lettering" are just annotations to screenshots with red arrows drawn and pointing where to click.

    So let's start again.

Download the setup file for Equlalizer APO.
Execute the setup program and follow the instructions. Select the audio devices but if you're not sure don't worry because you can change this later via:

    C:\Program Files\EqualizerAPO\Configurator.exe

    Reboot.

    Install Peace.

Then follow the rest of the steps posted earlier:

I'd say no. If it's working already just leave the audio driver. No need for the latest version.
