    What's up with that?

    Here's device manager. Just one.

    Which one can I disable/remove?

What I'm really trying to diagnose is why a certain program fails to play any audio after the computer sleeps then wakes up (but kind of sporadically).
I have to do a repair-install of the program just to get the sound playback working again. Very odd.
Though it didn't used to be this way. Weird stuff started after a crash/bluescreen followed by all the usual chkdsk sfc dism magic.

    Something's fishy. Thoughts?

HD audio device is Microsoft generic audio driver, which means that you didn't install your audio driver.

Most computers have a 2nd audio device which is your graphics card audio driver when you use hdmi cable which also carries audio signal.

It all started when I thought I'd solve my problems by running an automatic driver update software...

So which one do I set as default?

    Some AVG garbage.

I ended up downloading the latest available dell audio drivers (which were windows 8, but hey it works) and installing those.
