HDMI to connection to TV - Only one speaker working

    Windows Version: 21H2 (19044.2075)

OK, here's the problem that has me smashing my head against a wall:

    - Upgraded to Windows 10
    - Setup: (1) AUDIO OUT to SPEAKERS, (2) HDMI OUT to SONY TV [This setup worked fine on Windows 7]
    - Problem: Audio works fine in stereo through speakers, HOWEVER, audio only works through ONE speaker on TV. When right-clicking on the Sony TV device and clicking 'Test', I can see it trying to send audio to both speakers on the TV but only the left speaker returns a test sound.
    - Workaround: I've had to enable Mono Sound in Windows - the Mono sound will then play through BOTH speakers on my TV. This is OK but it is still really annoying to have to enable Mono sound.

I've tried so many different combinations of drivers to no avail. I've tried the default Microsoft ones and the latest Nvidia ones. Please help :)

I assume the TV stereo works when under its own control.

This sounds to me like it might be a cable / connector fault.
At the very least, I think you should swap the cable with another to prove or eliminate that possibility.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

This happens when you have ancient hardware with ancient drivers (which doesn't work with your nvidia driver) which forced you to use the Microsoft generic HDMI audio driver (which also doesn't work).

Yeah, TV stereo works fine for other connections.

That is a very good idea. I hadn't thought of the cable as a problem. Will try that. Thank you :)

    That's a pity.

When I had the problem with my output to TV, before replacing the cable I had bought a USB-C to HDMI adapter but that had proved to be a waste of time & money because not all computers can provide an HDMI output through the USB-C connection. I never did find out what specs I should have checked first to find out if it could do this.

Perhaps your computer maker has a user forum where you could ask if anybody else has had the same problem?

I do have one stupid idea though. make a new Windows 10 system image, restore a Windows 7 system image [assuming you have one], make notes of the sound card driver & any 'Display audio' drivers in Device manager, backup your drivers, search the backup's inf files until you can positively identify the relevant driver[s] then restore your Windows 10 image and restore the old driver[s].

    Best of luck,
    Denis

Thanks mate! Not a stupid idea at all. I'll see if I'm able to get a Windows 7 system image.

    Thanks again :)

"get"? I meant one that you had made.

I forgot to include this link. I didn't know about it when I had Windows 7 but somebody else told me in another thread here that they were able to use the same commands successfully in Windows 7.
Dism itself definitely existed in Windows 7 but my own old notes do not mention exporting drivers.

    Rob,
I think you used this Dism command to backup drivers in Windows 7. Do you have any advice for Knopfler?
