    No sound

A friend was fiddling about with my computer, and now there's no sound. If I play videos, music, you tube, there is no sound. The sound level control at bottom right of screen is at high volume, the level control at bottom left of videos is at high volume, but all is totally silent. What has this friend done to my computer?

I would suggest that you ask them what they done. That way, it will give us a better idea for diagnostics and hopefully a solution.

As a start, you could run the Playing Audio Trouble-Shooter . . .

Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Playing Audio

As an extra suggestion, check that there is NOT something plugged into the audio port like a pair of headphones or speakers for example.

    I hope this helps.

    Have they..
    - reset the default sound output device?
    No sound-1.jpg
    - changed the volume mixer settings?
    No sound-1.jpg

And note you have given no details of your PC/ sound setup so we don't know if you're talking about external speakers - wired/bluetooth or headphones, desktop or laptop.

If external speakers a lot of other possibilities.

found the answer - the speaker default was set to NVIDIA whatever that is. I reset it to USB audio and now it's good! I don't know how this friend managed to do this.
