    Youtube volume fluctuation, systray volume icon greyed out in settings

    As has occurred occasionally in the past, lately my Youtube volume is going up and down by itself. Some possible fixes I ran across involved the use of the systray volume icon, but it's missing from the systray and greyed out in the settings.

    I use a portable version of the Volume˛ - advanced Windows volume control volume manager (great app, btw). As far as I remember, they have previously both co-existed in the systray without issue. I'm just speculating that perhaps it is somehow responsible for the disabled default volume icon.

    I closed Volume˛, but it had no effect on the status of the default volume icon.

    Volume˛ has a couple of related options:

    Ensure these are not set.

    There are also options which might lead to volume changes e.g.

    when you use it.

    Otherwise try running the audio troubleshooter for starters.

    If you care to search for e.g.
    volume setting greyed out

    you will find numerous reports and possible solutions. E.g.
    How do I turn the system icon for sound on (currently off; greyed out)
    System icons greyed out

    The troubleshooter didn't help. My action center is active.

    Since those links are for Win 7/8 do you think that batch file is safe to run?

    Maybe the easiest thing to do is restore with Macrium.

    Brinks reg file did the fix. So simple, just change the value to zero, and reboot

    From this
    Code:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "HideSCAVolume"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "HideSCAVolume"=-
    to this
    Code:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "HideSCAVolume"=-

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "HideSCAVolume"=-
    Thanks for everything!
