Redlining white noise from mic input after Windows21H2 installed

I've been running Windows 2004 on my PC but after the end of support and also having update issues messing up my system I decided to buy another SSD and do a clean install of Windows. I'm now running 21H2 and have found that when I went to use my microphone instead of getting a nice clean sound of my voice there is now an unbearable full tilt redlining, "white noise" emanating from the mic input. The cable is fine, the connection is fine, I've also done every method of driver uninstall /reinstall /the mic troubleshooter/Microsoft online chat help, which ended up being of no help at all. The thing is, the mic works clear as a bell if I just log out of my new SSD and log into my old SSD with 2004 version.

To me there seems to be an incorrect assignment of another signal from somewhere in Windows, as the level of the sound coming from that input cannot be adjusted in the sound settings, it's as I said "redlining" and the only way to stop it before it sends me deaf and blows my system up is to disable the mic. It's the type of sound an incorrectly wired device would make, as in where you connect the wrong wire on the wrong terminal. As I said there's nothing wrong with the mic itself as it works fine in the other version on the other SSD. This only occurred after installing the new Windows version.

Hiconic hello and welcome to tenforums ,

Check the difference in audio input and output drivers between the two installs.

I've already done the Googling for this issue and have seen just about every comment and video to do with sound issues, I'm not a novice, I just can't find anyone else out there that has had this issue which is so obviously to do with the Windows install changing access to this channel/input. There is a signal being sent to that input that is not the microphone signal, as I said in my post, the loud redlining noise cannot be adjusted with any sound level controls. It is not an "audio sound being picked up by the mic"
it is a sound, (for those who remember dial up connections back when the dinosaurs roamed the planet) when you tried to connect to the internet you would hear those weird sounds as it connected, only this is at max volume. This is Windows messing with the motherboard somehow.

Did you already compare the drivers?

Maybe someone will have suggestions based on a sound sample.

yeah, sorry, I've checked and they're identical, I was wondering, my mind turned to Services, do you think this could be an Audio Endpoint service issue? How would I set up a sound sample to post? I mean that's a great idea and I had thought of that but being that my mic isn't working to record do you think there is another option to record it?

I'm not sure about services question.

You would have to make a recording and post it How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums

Ok so I think the system should be able to record a wave file sample of the sound, well I think that's the only option available to me atm.

    Fixed Issue

I worked out what was happening with the mic, Windows had set the recording Bit Rate way too high so all I did was reduce it and "Bingo!" all good now. Thanks for the assistance guys.
