No sounds from Dell

Hello,
I have a Dell XPS desktop Win10 Pro 21H1 (OS build 19043.1348)
I cannot hear any sounds
in Device Manager under Sound ,video and game controllers
it has 2 listing
-NVIDIA high definition audio
-Realtek audio both with no errors
in sound Properties under the Playback tab
it has 3 NVIDIA listings with a Red down arrow
and a Speakers / Headphone listing with a Green check only when I
plug in speakers or headphones otherwise it also is a red down arrow

Ok,

Use the taskbar right click in the Speaker Icon and click sounds. Go to 'Playback' Tab

For starters disable by a right click, any sound hardware that you are not seeing as the recognised device, theyre not needed ok. That means any SPDIF, HDMI, headphones, audio output to a TV. Especially the Nvidia output, which for me can be corrupt from the Windows store. Eliminate the connections that are not being used.

Then disable any disabled devices from showing as it only will confuse you to what is actually being run, so it only shows you the audio device that is connected.

I take it you are using the 'Green' circled connection out the back of the machine? If so, that will be the onboards 'Speakers' output and not anything else. Disable anything else which is in the list of devices which are not 'Speakers'

Windows 10 is not very friendly

I do some support on the Dell forums. What is exact model number?
Dell's require the Dell model specific driver and in most later models Waves MaxxAudio Pro that controls jack detection (and other audio functions).

We find many problems are fixed by reinstalling the model specific sound driver. I can't link you to the model driver page without model number. But go to the link below and either enter your service tag number or model number to get the drivers.

Desktop computers don't come with built-in speakers.

You have to buy a pair of computer speakers and plug it in.

Yes I'm using Green' circled connection out the back of the machine Speakers/Headphones
I did as you suggested and still get no sound
when I right click the the green circled connection and click test
I get an error! failed to play test tone

Still waiting for specific model number. Can't give advice without it.

The model is XPS 8700
I found Dell Maxx audiopro I unchecked mute in main tab and
went to the advanced tab and clicked restore defaults
but I still have no sound

Im going to have a guess and say that the motherboard inside your machine is possibly a Z87, which for me is not supported by Windows 8.1 / 10 and certainly not 11.

There is possibly a fix and that means rather than use the onboard sound from the motherboard, and depending what processor you have, your only next option is to enable the onboard sound within the CPU, which for a Z87 and processors at the time would be an HD4600 range.

So if you can, you'll need the correct CPU onboard graphics driver which i have as a starter for you, so download this one to start with.

Then, once installed, go into the bios, find the CPU settings and enable 'CPU Audio'
