Sound comes out of laptop instead of TV when viewing a DVD

I have an HDMI cable connected to my TV from my laptop.
I put a DVD into the laptop, and play it.
The sound comes out of the laptop, but not the TV.
(Same problem when I'm in a Zoom meeting. I have it on my TV screen but the sound is coming out of the laptop.)

Sound does come out of the TV when I watch a TV show in a browser on the laptop.

Is there a setting I need to change, or do things simply not work that way when it comes to Zoom or DVDs?

See the 'System One' tab in My Computers for the Windows specs. :)

    Thanks!

You may need to select the appropriate output device: (yes I do know its title is about no sound and that's not your problem)

    Hey

Alot of TV's now, have the ability to switch from HDMI to Analogue whilst using each others connections.
So your TV might be set to Analogue audio on the HDMI port, which would then be the green circled audio output from the machine.
You can swap this about, so people can choose whether they use the TV amplifier or their own seperate amp.

Check your TV Sound setup and AV audio outputs

Hey Dalchina, its been a while

When playing a DVD check here to see if you can change it to TV.

I've had the same issue, and it was defaulting to the laptop.

Sorry everyone, I forgot to come back to say I solved the issue! I did it like this:

    • Right-click speaker icon in the tray
    • Click on "Sounds"
    • Go go to the "Playback" tab"

There are two speaker devices listed:
    1. Digital Output (with a TV icon)
    2. Speaker/HP (my laptop speakers)

I disabled Speaker/HP, and then Digital Output automatically took over, which made the sound come out of the TV.

    Problem solved!
Thanks for the suggestions and advice that helped steer me in that direction.
