Thanks. It might also help if you tell us what you do to make that appear, and whether you've used any tweaks like this, for example.

It was just there with a new install of Windows 10. I didn't do anything to make it appear.

I know it disappears after a couple seconds, but was hoping for a way to move it out of the way a bit.

My new Notebook has F1 Mute, F2 Decrease and F3 Increase controls, only last show onscreen about 2 clock ticks, even have an X for mute or not. It wouldn't be a problem to avoid covering the arrows in the browser, I don't run it Maximized anyway so I can resize as desired.
I don't display everything Maximized but it still covers the arrows.

That's not something I recognise as part of Windows... but Win10Tweaker's post
How can I move the top left volume indicator ?
shows the same image of an OSD.

That suggests it's related to a setting in a browser - Google Chrome or Firefox for example.
Enable or Disable Volume and Media Key Handling in Google Chrome
Enable or Disable Volume Control and Media Key Handling in Firefox
You can see that image there.

Is a browser installed, and does it launch on startup? (You said this is a clean install...)

Try e.g. Winspy to identify the process it's related to - drag the finder tool over that ...

Does it appear if you do a clean boot?

My point was, to quote an old saying, 'If the mountain will not come to Muhammad, then Muhammad must go to the mountain' or in other words move what is being obscured, won't be very far.

I do have Firefox installed but it does not launch at startup. I followed the instructions mentioned in “Enable or Disable Volume Control and Media Key Handling in Firefox” and changed “media.hardwaremediakeys.enabled” to false but it made no difference. I can press a keyboard volume key right after the PC boots up & the indicator displays

If I use VLC to play an MP4 video file from the HDD the small vertical display shows up. When searching to see if it was part of an updated VLC version I found this.

How to Hide the On-screen Volume Indicator in Windows 10
It says “Windows 10 and 8 include a volume display that appears at the top left corner of the screen whenever you adjust the volume using a shortcut key.”

I also found this where the display disappeared & they wanted it back.

I haven’t tried a clean boot yet because the above examples seem to indicate the display is part of Windows 10 yet not everyone has this feature.

I’m using an inexpensive Microsoft keyboard but it does have dedicated volume keys. Could that make a difference?

I shutdown my browser, launched a video using VLC and then used my keyboard volume adjust. This resulted in the small vertical volume appearing in the upper left corner. I'd say this is a Micro$oft creation.

If you review my post #9, I indicated only the right-side portion of the volume notification was removed by adjusting the browser.

In post #10, I listed a third party work-around and have yet to identify anything better.

Please let us know if you find a better solution.

I watched the video in posting #10 and one comment said it does not hide the display in Windows 10.

I searched for a download site & one of the Cons says “This package cannot currently support Windows 10 operating systems.”

Clicking on the developer’s name brings up this site

It states a release date of 2012 and mentions “Windows XP , Vista , Win7, Win8”.
Clicking on “Download latest version” takes you to a dead end.

Most of the newer searches such as this one recommend “HideVolumeOSD”.

But that appears to only hide the volume display not move it.

I like the indicator but not it's location. For now I'll just live with it.

I have Volume2 working on my PC, and I can recall adjusting the position of the volume indicator very slightly using it.

    Relocate Volume status window

I'm not certain when this volume indicator window first appeared, I hadn't noticed it before I Clean installed 21H1 (was using 2004).
Whenever I use the keyboard to adjust the volume level, this vertical indicator appears in the upper-left corner and remains for 5 seconds.

For those who are unhappy with the position, I've found at least 1 functional solution. Volume2 re-locates the position & format to look like this.

I downloaded Volume2 from a link I found at Github.

I used the portable Version 1.1.7, build 437 dated 10.26.2021. I don't see any user options available.

The fully installed version has many options including the ability to reposition the indicator or change skins.

    @W10 Tweaker

Thanks for the information & glad to hear that Volume2 works with Windows 10. I'll have to try it.

This came upon the Microsoft site.
