Windows 10 does not playback nor record audio

    Hello everyone,

So this is pretty much my last hope. I've been having issues with sound for 2 days now and I'm out of ideas.
I use the Logitech G635 Headset for playback and the Blue Yeti X for recording.

I am unable to use any type of speaker or microphone on my PC. When trying to play an audio file or record my voice with various programs, most of them throw an error message saying that it failed to open the output device. Some of them crash completely.
Windows immediately opens the "Get Help" dialog (which did not solve my issue) when clicking on the volume control, which has a red "X" next to the symbol.

In the Playback and Recording tabs of the Sound menu it says "No audio devices are installed". However, when I go to devices and printers/device manager, I can see every single audio device and microphone plugged in. Windows reports every single one of these to be working correctly. When trying to update their drivers it says that either the best drivers are already installed or that, for my Logitech headset, no drivers are necessary/loaded. The "Rollback Drivers" button is disabled for all devices. Uninstalling and reinstalling devices didn't work. Windows itself is up to date.

I even tried uninstalling the entirety of Realtek audio drivers, reinstalling them from the internet and from the DVD my motherboard came with, nothing. Reinstalling Logitech G Hub did not work either, it gets stuck on "Connecting" on both my headset and microphone.

Kaspersky's virus scan didn't detect anything malicious. I'm also sure that there is no problem with my sound card or headset because Linux Mint, which I dual boot with Windows, has no problems with sound. Every Linux distribution I've tried so far on Live-USB (Ubuntu, Manjaro, Fedora) had no problem playing sound either, just Windows all of a sudden.
I've had Mint installed for months on the same drive as Windows, so I doubt that it has anything to do with this. I also haven't installed any new programs recently.

Does anyone have an idea of what else I can try except reinstalling Windows? Thank you in advance!

Hi, out of curiosity, try creating a new user for test purposes, log in as that user; do you see the same problems?

What does the audio troubleshooter report when logged in as the original user?

    Hello dalchina,

Thank you for your reply. The new user faces the exact same issues as my main admin account. The troubleshooter told me that it made some changes to my system and Windows would have to restart to apply them. However, after restarting the problem still persisted, though now the troubleshooter reports that everything is fine.

I've included screenshots of relevant windows this time.

The only odd thing that happened was that my PC refused to boot twice. It would power on just fine, but then get stuck at the BIOS splash screen. I unplugged the power, waited a few seconds and plugged it back in; booted as normal, just without sound on Windows.

Thanks. Given the bootup issue, I'd suggest you first check your disk (s).

Hard Disk Sentinel is great (functional trial, includes SSDs). Green is good.

If ok, try an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data.
This will also refresh all drivers.

Given your build you can simply create an iso file for that using the MS media creation tool.

    glad it was so easy.

Now remember to start a new regime of disk imaging, e.g. using Macrium Reflect (free/paid) + external storage for image files.

Base image (1st one) of all the O/S partitions, then periodic differential images for example.

Then if something goes badly wrong- hopefully you just restore the image.
