Bluetooth Connectivity Issue...

Working on a friend's laptop running Windows 10. She is trying to connect a bluetooth speaker. She is not very tech savvy so I am attempting to help her. My own laptop is running Windows 7.

Anyway, I managed to pair the speaker, and it is recognized by her system, however when running a music program on her laptop we cannot get any sound to emanate from her bluetooth speaker.

Any ideas as to why? (I am much more familiar with Windows 7 than Windows 10).

If you try playing music from a different app or YouTube via browser, does that work? Have you checked the volume mixer in the system tray to make sure volumes are up - right click on the icon and select the option that lets you see various volume controls based on source.

A few things to try..

If you go to 'Settings' > 'System' > 'Sound' (or right-click the speaker in the notification tray and select 'Open Sound Settings')

At the top of the screen, check that the bluetooth speaker is selected under 'Choose your output device', all sounds will go through the selected device unless changed in advanced sound options.

At the bottom of the screen under 'Advanced sound options', click on 'App volume device preferences'. With your music app running, you should see which output device it's using.

Also, some programs may have their own settings, so worth while checking them to see which output device it's using.

If the bluetooth speaker has it's own volume buttons, try adjusting them if you haven't done so already.

No sound will go through from any browser or music app...

Try pairing it with a different PC or device to confirm it works.

It works with her Android phone just fine, but not with her Windows 10 laptop...

Check the PC manufacturer website for Bluetooth driver and other driver updates.
Consider reinstalling the Bluetooth driver.
Try unpairing and repairing the speaker.
Try the Windows Bluetooth Troubleshooter.
