    Windows media playlist(wpl) on computer to usb


    Hi 10,

    I have ripped 150 + cd's to my computer 1200+ songs.

    I then created a playlist with 50 subfolders Aerosmith through ZZ Top. All my Aerosmith albums are in one wpl folder, AC/DC in another etc., all the way to 50th folder 4-5 ZZ-Top albums..

    Everything is fine when I open Windows media player, It shows my playlist, and the 50 sub-folders, I can play them all, 1x1 or select all and hit play/ shuffle etc.

    What I want to do is copy all that music from(original destination) to a flash drive and add the "Playlist + sub-folders" so I can do the same in my van, and use use the wpl file as opposed to sorting through each folder on usb drive...

    The playlist support really depends on what player you are using to play music in your van ?

    yes stuck in the 70's/80's...

    The playlist support really depends on what player you are using to play music in your van ?

    Be more specific, What do you want to know? it plays wma, mp3, no wav. I have everything in mp3 format. I already use a couple of sticks in the Van, I just want to know if I can Add "Playlist"

    Thanks for giving your radio model.

    It seem that playlist are only supported via an Ipod/IPhone, So you would be forced to create the playlist with Itune, I'm afraid. And use an Iphone.

    You can copy them, but you can sync your playlist to your thumbdrive. Click the Windows "Start" Menu and select "Windows Media Player" from the "Programs" list. Click the "Copy to CD or Device" tab on the left side. Click the down-arrow under "Items to copy" and select the playlist you wish to copy.Dec 6, 2018

    Well, your problem lies not where WMP inability to do so, but more in your player to interpret them.

    I get why I can't do USB, How bout if I copy all that music to another PC, shouldn't that work?

    A Windows media playlist (wpl) is a file not a folder. Your diagram shows 40 individual .wpl files, 40 individual playlists.
    - Playlists are just lists. They do not contain anything other than text.
    - So you cannot simply copy a playlist to another device and expect it to work.

    Your .wpl files are, by default, in C:\%UserName%\Music\Playlists

    Drop one of them onto an open Notepad window and you will be able to see its layout & its relative path file referencing syntax.
    For example,
    Code:
    <media src="..\..\..\Video\ToWatch\Cartoons\Tom and Jerry\1.074 Jerry and Jumbo.ts"/>
    You can manually edit a .wpl file to use absolute path file referencing

    <media src="D:\Video\ToWatch\Cartoons\Tom and Jerry\1.074 Jerry and Jumbo.ts"/>
    and WMP will still use the playlist correctly.
    - .wpl files only cope straightforwardly with a very few symbols or punctuation marks so if you take look at one you know contains, say, an apostrophe or a semi-colon you'll see how you would have to deal with them if you were to alter it manually.

    I know nothing about the media player in your van. You will need to re-create your desired playlists in that player from scratch unless you are able to discover enough about its playlist file structure to be able to manually convert from your existing .wpl files. And, whatever .wpl file conversion you are able to do, you will also have to copy the media files themselves onto that other device.

    The same applies to trying to re-use WMP playlists between computers [or between Windows OS versions or between users].
    - I use the same location for my Music folder on all my computers and also use the same locations for all my audio files. I am therefore able to copy playlists freely between them without having to make any changes to the .wpl files.

    Dear Denis,
    Ty,

    Yes my Music folder path is C:\Users\User\Music and my playlist with the 50+ subfolders is C:\Users\User\Music\Playlists

    My actual music files are In a folder on my desktop called "Music Desktop'' --->C:\Users\User\Desktop\music desktop.
    (NORMALLY I WOULDN'T PUT FILES ON MY DESKTOP, RATHER ON MY C DRIVE, then create a shortcut.( sorry caps lock)

    Regardless that's where the (hard copies) I created the playlist with the 40+ .wpl files are...

    1)How can I move the C:\Users\User\Desktop\music desktop folder to c:\ and change the Playlist path?

    30+ years working in DOS and this has me stumped?

    answering 1) should answer this...
    How do I get that playlist over to another win 10 computer assuming I copy the C:\Users\User\Desktop\music desktop files over to the other computer's c:\
