No sound - red X- after CPU upgrade

    ASRock, I9-9900, GTX 1650, Win10

I upgraded my CPU from an I3-9100 to an I9-9900. After i did this, i started to get the red x on the speaker, in taskbar.

I have an issue with the high definition audio controller, and it states no speakers or headphones plugged in

i show NVIDIA high definition audio and Nvidia virtual audio device under sound video game controller

when i go to sounds in control panel, it shows nvidia output (3 times) and they are all three greyed out.

I had/have my headphones plugged into the port on the top of the tower in the front.

i upgraded my graphics driver, to no avail. i tried to download the realtek driver, but it didnt do anything

when i try to update the driver for the sound card, the real tek driver doesnt show (manually select)

    Any assistance would be appreciated

EDIT: in system devices, i have two high definition audio controllers. The first one, has the yellow triangle, and has this note:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API.

What motherboard do you have? You should try clear CMOS.

    One of two:
    H310CM-HDV
    H310CM-DVS

board layout in the docs that came with comp. both look identical

EDIT: removed cmos bat. no change

I think i have a spare sound card around here. Will adding that cause any other issues with the existing stuff? i have a pcie port available and assume i can add it, since the other nvidia ones are not working, and the motherboard one is not showing up.

    thoughts?

I recently upgraded the CPU in my Gigabyte "Designare" Z390 motherboard to an i9 9900K. There was no change in PC hardware other than the upgraded CPU, and everything worked as it did with old CPU.

Reinstall the Intel motherboard chipset driver (One of the things it does is identify all the devices and may fix the Code 10). Reboot after installing chipset drivers. Check Device Manager for any errors or missing drivers. Report back with findings.

So, i actually tried that, and a bunch of other things. Nothing worked.

went and got a usb sound card, plugged it in, and everything working. Not the greatest fix, but the sound coming from it is phenomenal. short run, out a couple bucks, long run, better sound

    thanks all

One of the best way to avoid this, before upgrading, is to go to device manager and delete the CPUs, Shutdown the computer replace the CPU and fire back on... Since your driver was not able to install it's API, I think Your windows may have not loaded the right HALs for everything. Try to go to device manager, click view, select show hidden devices. then expand Processors, If you have Ghosts of your old CPU there delete all CPUs and restart the computer.
