How To Boost Microphone Volume More Than 100%

I have a usb plug in table microphone that sounds clear. The problem is that even at 100% volume I need to hold it 1 inch to my mouth for others to hear. Is there any way to boost the sound level to greater that 100%?

Some microphones have a microphone boost option under levels. This one doesn't*. Is there any way to enable microphone boost for specific microphones, even by using third party software?

    Your advice would be appreciated.

    Kind regards
    Chris

    * There is the option to use AGC (Automatic Gain Control). But when that is enabled the sound is terrible because it will amplify the noise when I am not speaking.

Hi, there are some ideas here referring to the boost option being missing:

    No guarantees it will help..

Maybe if you provided some hardware details someone might be able to help.

Thank you Dalchina. I have tried all the suggestions in the links but to no avail. Microsoft update says all available updates have been installed. I tried one by one from Device manager and it says that the best drivers are already installed for my sound card and usb ports. Sadly, Equaliser API has no effect on my usb plug in mic.

I am using an Asus H31 Gamer mobo. But the mic in question is a plug in usb device so I don't know if the sound card is involved in any way.

I will keep trying to find a solution but in the meantime will just have to speak one inch from the mic so others can hear. Apart from the low volume, its quite a clear mic.

    Kind regards
    Chris

Thanks. Just wondering.. do you see an appropriate device in this dialogue?

I'm wondering if APO has no effect because the correct device hasn't been - or perhaps can't be- selected.
    Example:

I have a BT headset (which actually had no mike as far as I know!) - and that is shown there.
The T3 Pro is my phone. No idea why that's shown!

To enable it I had to restart my PC. Did you?

Thank you Dalchina. Yes, in Equaliser APO I found my device and rebooted. I think I have solved the problem with Equaliser APO. It appears to work but I was testing it in the wrong way. I was adjusting the preamp from the minimum to the maximum and watching the level meter under Sound/Recording which didn't change at all. So I thought the mic wasn't being boosted.

Then I tested using another method. I opened the Viber messaging app on my PCand sent myself a voice message. When I set the Equaliser APO preamp to minimum I could hardly hear the message at all. When I set it to a high level the signal was much louder. So it does work. Its just that the Mic level meter in Control Panel/sound is showing the default level before it reaches Equaliser APO.

Its a shame though that I have to resort to another app to boost the mic level. This is something that Windows should be able to do. Some links say that the sound card might not be compatible with Windows mic boost. However, on my machine Auto Gain Control is there. AGC is a type of microphone boost but its automatic and degrades the quality compared to a a fixed level boost. So a fixed gain control option should be possible with my hardware.

Thank you again for all your help.

    Kind regards
    Chris

Glad it worked. I've no experience of using the boost feature with a USB microphone so can't advise further on that. However, the article makes it clear there are scenarios in which there are microphones to which it doesn't apply.

AGC may be aimed more at normalisation..
