weird sound recording problem

Hi, I have a strange problem and I'm at my wits end with it, so this is my last hope

While doing my online teaching, either via Zoom or Teams, I record the sessions. Now, I have two machines, a desktop and a laptop, both work fine for live streams, but the recordings sound very different. On the laptop, everything works fine, while on the desktop the recording is accompanied by booming bass echo sort of thing, hard to explain in words (basically, at word endings the sound gets low and loud). I suppose there is something about the settings or drivers that lead to this, but I can't figure it out.

Now, in both cases (laptop and desktop, both Windows 10 Pro 21H1, desktop is education, but that can't affect the sound, right?) the recordings are made with the same webcam (Logitech C925e) and I mean physically the same device. This is a plug-and-play USB webcam, with no driver installation. Everything about it is default. Zoom and Teams are basically at their default values, but it does not matter, since Windows sound tests (as well as audio tests in either software) reveal the same issue.

Can anyone suggest where should I be looking?

Without knowing what your sound card in your desktop is it's a little hard to give definitive advice, but you might try looking at the audio controls in your system tray. Example: You have a Realtek sound card (for instance), open the Realtek control panel and check your EQ and environment settings. Also check the mixer settings in your Windows sound panel. Both can add some weirdness to your audio if they are set wrong.

I do not have any add-on sound card. The system sound is integrated into the motherboard (ASUS Rog Strix Z490-A Gaming) and comes with Realtek drivers and an Asus-modified Realtek HD Control Panel (Supreme-FX). However, the microphone that I am using is on the Logitech webcam (C925e) that is connected through USB and is not affected by any of the Realtek settings (as in neither the Windows sound panel nor the Realtek Control Panel see the USB microphone and have any settings related to it).
