2 identical BT headphones - one will connect, one will not.

    Huawei Matebook D14 2020, Win 10 Home 64 Build 19041.331, Realtek BT adapter HCL 9.55705 LMP 9.65209

I bought 2 identical BT headphones - one as a spare.
(I only want to connect one at a time, not both together.)

The first one was immediately detected and installed. But if I switch this off (powerwise) and try to connect the other, Win 10 won't connect. Bluetooth sees the device and immediately names it, but it times-out on connect.

Question 1 - what needs to be done to get the 2nd headphones up and running?
Question 2 - is it possible to establish connectivity to both? (as in being able to connect to either one, with only 1 powered on and the other switched off)?

    Thanks in advance.

Try unpairing set #1 and pair set #2. Does set #1 now behave as set #2 was?

In Bluetooth settings if you see the headphones have failed to connect then:
    • Click on the device in the list
    • Click on the Remove device button.
    • Wait for the device to be removed from the list
    • Try pairing the device again

I have had to do this sometimes with my Bluetooth headset.

"The first one was immediately detected and installed. But if I switch this off (powerwise) and try to connect the other, Win 10 won't connect" = I cannot pair with set 2.

If I remove the device (set 1) via the device manager and try to connect set 2, Windows sees set 2 but will not connect (pair) - it's exactly the same as before.

There must be some kind of coded signature that differentiates identical devices - when the device is removed this identifying signature remains in somewhere like the registry or somewhere else maybe . . . .

Both headsets work fine with all of my Android devices - immediate plug n play - this is a problem specific to Windows.

So much for all the expert help here. Finally got it sorted myself - on-and-off messing for 3 months.

    • Open Services as administrator
    • In Services, right-click Bluetooth Support Service service
    • Click Properties
    • In the Properties Windows, click tab Log On
    • Change the selection from Local System Account to This account: .
    • Type “Local Service” and leave the password fields blank.
(You don’t need to click the Browse button. Just type “Local Service” exactly the same).
    • The password fields tend to show dots. Remove these dots, so that the fields are empty
    • Click OK.
    • Right-click the Bluetooth Support Service service and click on Restart

I can now use both identical sets of bluetooth headphones - they both show up as available devices - I can switch between them as and when I need. Sorted.

Glad to hear you found a solution. Thanks for posting that.

Depends if anyone's been in that position. Perhaps few- if any- have..

So much for all the expert help here.
And exactly how much did you pay? No guarantees of anything. All help is voluntary.
