CAPS LOCK sound warning not working

I have tried suggestions from another thread - but as it is suggested there because that is an old thread I am asking again - sorry if the instructions for fixing are already available.

I have now reverted from my newer Lenovo Keyboard which came with my new PC to an older Kensington and it seems the same.

I will next check my PC details are up to date.

Thanks for suggestions - but please keep them simple I am neurologically disabled and have working memory and sequencing problems.

Hi, here are some ideas: see if one works for you. Keep a list of what you try. If no success, please post back listing what you've tried. Thanks.

Tutorial (from -- the Tutorials section):
Turn On or Off Narrator Caps Lock Warnings while Typing in Windows 10

Caps Lock Has Lost Its Beep.

I have tried suggestions from another thread
This is likely to be one of those where, as I don't know what you've already tried, I'll have spent time suggesting what you have tried.

That's why I asked for a clear list of what you have tried.

Do you see this when you toggle caps lock?

    Regarding first use of narrator

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Feedback was invited - so I am reporting back on what happened initially.

Wow - that Narrator Program was a complete surprise!

I clicked on & it started reading stuff - I had no idea what it was about - I eventually realised it was reading from the dialogue box that opens when narrator is turned on - so that is fine.

But the advice given in the tutorial is then "2 Click/tap on Narrator on the left side, and select Always (default),"

I could not see where it said select "always" but realised it is the default position - so maybe the fact I could not see it written is irrelevant - can I please have a response to this remark before I investigate further (in the interim I have turned Narrator OFF.)

    Thank you very much indeed.

Hi, having picked that up from another thread, I realise that it seems to apply only when the Narrator is used, so not relevant. I think I missed that in the title, so ignore that one. Apologies.

    2nd Interim response

Thanks for that and for being so prompt.

I plan to try the next suggestion when I am not occupied with other things.

Go well and thank you again, so far.

    Hi Andrew

I know you've already confirmed this setting, I just have to ask you to confirm it one more time.
From the taskbar search, type Caps and then enter.

Confirm that the play a sound button is set to ON.

After confirming the above setting, this short tutorial is a graphical direction to dalchina's 2nd reference above.

From the taskbar search, type Volume mixer and then enter to open the Sound Mixer Options.

Confirm that the system sounds bar is set appropriately for your listening preference.

Before we dig in much deeper, confirmation of these settings would be prudent.

Bless my soul - I just turned my PC on after having disconnected it overnight. Clumsily in the process of doing a Covid-19 Lateral Flow Test got a drip of water from the sanitising the area procedure - on the Caps lock key - went to dry it off and got A BLEEP - just like it should do.

So all is well for now folks and I do not know for sure what, if any action I took, rectified the problem that judging by my memory of typing all in capitals a number of time in recent days - has lasted for at least about a week.

So thank you everybody - I shall have this thread to come back to in future if it is ever necessary again!

    - - - Updated - - -

AFTER THOUGHT - what a discovery is that narrator program - I do not think I need it at present - but it is very impressive if a bit complicated at first - I got a real surprise when my computer started talking to me and at first could not understand what was happening or what was being spoken about - I reckon it would be better if when it starts for the first time if it gave a sort of warning - like "You have just turned on the narrator Program" and then pause and then say "Until youdisable the Narrator Programme it will tell you what is on your screen" pause again" Shall I continue - please respond by - doing something or other!

Nonetheless it must be great for folk with no or very limited sight - a fabulous discovery - I am very grateful for my sight and my other faculties!

Yes, it is a bit clunky. Coming to it new, you would have to be told that CTRL + Win key Enter turns it on /off, and CTRL +win key + N takes you to the Settings dialogue (but no narration!).

And then there's the magnifier (for people with poor vision) and high contrast mode.

And the old (from Vista on) Speech Recognition - which lets you dictate text and issue commands like "Open file explorer" "Undo that" "Redo that" "New paragraph" "Move to beginning of line"... but far from perfect.

Curiously, back when Cortana could 'Open' programs - it couldn't close them. But the old Speech Recognition can...
