    I know music CDs can be Ripped in a few formats by Windows Media Player, I use .mp3 for the size, full CD at about 50-75MB. The file size for WAV (Lossless) files will be larger, perhaps 5 to 10 times larger but I haven't done that nor have I tried files that have already been Ripped and stored as .mp3. The files on a music CD shown in File Explorer are not the actual music but .cda pointers of 1KB pointing to the actual tracks on the CD.

    Hi there

    @teots

    I'm not sure if this is even worth considering -- as you are starting already with a Lossy compressed format what's the point of expanding it to use more space - you won't get any improvement whatsoever from the original audio - the only solution is if you can - to re-rip the original source (assuming cd or other Lossless format) to flac or wav. I'd recommend flac as not only is it lossless like wav but has compression so you can store more music. All current music players on computers can handle flac as well as a load of phones e.g Samsung etc.

    @Berton -- rip CD's to FLAC -- much better - any decent CD ripper can do it -- even the old Venerable WinAMP. FLAC is LOSSLESS and uses much less space than WAV.

    Here's a shot from an XP Virtual machine (Winamp still runs on W10 and W11). I prefer Winamp because it has the gracenote cddb built in for tagging tracks automatically -- it's much better for Classical Music if that's your thing than the modern Freedb or other music databases that can be used for tagging CD's automatically.

    @jimbo45, true but FLAC doesn't seem to play on my MP3 players, they are limited.

    You might consider Audacity for audio conversion and editing. Its free and works well. Actually I'm surprised it wasn't already mentioned.

    @Berton

    Physical MP3 players probably have limited capability but these are probably old ones. FLAC plays flac without issue on Samsung phones etc -- simply have VLC installed.

    "mp3 from youtube and wanted to covert wav format to sound close to CD."

    That is not possible as MP3 is lossy and that is it, some quality has been lost. You cannot get the CD quality back. All it does is increase the file size.
