    connecting speakers windows home

i thought this would be easy, just plug the green plug into the green socket on the back of the desktop.
new computer, so called dell. she knew nothing so here i am on the best forum.

setup: main monitor is a dell without speaker, and viewsonic with a speaker. (much to our surprise)

the viewsonic is connected to the dell with a hdmi which i assume carries sound.

the dell monitor is connected via a displayport cable.

the green plug is connected to logitech amp and speakers.

at the moment it plays through the viewsonic speaker.

how do i get sound from the dell desktop to the logitech speakers?

    Sounds simple to me!

    thanks all

    See the Sound control panel.

You may need to install drivers for the Dell desktop's onboard sound, although I expect that those are already present.

Typically the audio controller is Realtek, but as you say nothing about the model of the Dell desktop, we can't check its specs.

@anon125 You need to set the "Default Playback Device"

Right click the "sound" icon (near the clock), and choose: "Open Sound Settings".

Then just follow the numbers, in the pic...

Do the speakers have a GREEN checkmark, like shown in this picture?

    @anon125

I probably should have asked earlier, but what is the model of the desktop, and the make and model of the Logitech speakers?

The manual says green is line out for speakers.

If you have stereo or 2.1 speakers and the output is set to 5.1 surround, you may get little or nothing out of green. The front panel headset socket will be mixed down to 2 channel so will work regardless.

In your pic it looks like 5.1 is selected - this might be the problem if you have 2.1 speakers.

the 5.1 was selected because i tried everything!
there was i assume a headphone socket at the front, very hard to see for me. black on black.
speakers do work from there, but would much rather use the back one, but so far they do not work from there.
    thanks
