    Dell XPS 15 9570 - Can't hear Line In Audio

    Greetings, Dell Community:

    Thanks for all your help in the past. I am again having an issue I resolved 2 years ago - I can't hear Line In Audio through the speakers on my laptop. I can see the meter moving fine. Specs:
    A)Dell XPS 15 9570;
    B)Running Win 10 Home 64-Bit Version 20H2;
    C)Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21 GHz;
    D) RAM - 8.00 GB (7.74 GB usable)

    Basically, I have a Casio SA-76 feeding into the laptop through a patch cord doing a Line in via the Headphone Jack. Upon opening MaxxAudio Pro, I keep getting, "Recording Device Is not Available", but in the Sound Settings I can see the meter moving back and forth as I hit keys on the keyboard. Upon opening VEGAS PRO 16, and clicking, "Arm for Record", I can also see the audio meter moving, but still can't hear it on the speakers. I also do have Stereo Mix enabled under the sound settings. Looking forward to a solution as I'd like to record some music soon. Looking forward to hearing back. Thanks so much.

    Respectfully,

    First question, are you using the Dell supplied Realtek sound driver for the 9570? We see a lot of problems on the Dell forums caused by not using the correct sound driver.

    Whether its needed or not, first step download and install/reinstall the Dell model specific sound driver. Maxxaudio needs the correct sound driver to work or work properly.

    Consider upgrading to the latest 21H1 Win 10, too.

    I have a recording studio using Cakewalk (Sonar) and Studio One 4.6 Pro DAW's. I don't use the PC sound for recording, I have an external USB connected unit for recording.

    You have to tell your laptop to retask your 3.5mm combo jack to line in (not mic in) through MaxxAudio Pro app AND probably have to buy a Y splitter so that you plug your patch cable to only 2 out of the 4 electric signal in the 4 pin combo jack.

    External microphone, headset, or speakers may not be supported - ideapad 100 - Lenovo Support UU

    Hello Again, Fireberd:

    Thanks again. Question: Regarding the external USB connected unit you have for recording, what is the name and model of the one you use? Please advise. I use VEGAS PRO 16. Thanks.

    Hello SandyT:

    Would a *female* Y-splitter like this (Handy 3.5mm Audio Splitter Cable - Walmart.com - Walmart.com) be sufficient? Looking forward to hearing back. Thanks.

    Hello Again, fireberd and sandyt:

    Apologies for the delay in responding: Thanks so much again! I am happy to report I now have the issue solved. Got my Y-splitter and a pair of USB speakers and it is working beautifully! Appreciate all the help.

    My USB connected recording interface unit is an MOTU Ultralite MK5. Click on "My Computers" and you will see it listed.
