Is muting the Microphone the same as Disabling it?
I can mute it on my key board, but that only stops someone from hearing me, I can still hear them?

Just wondering for I want to make sure I can quickly Disable/Enable the Microphone?

Hello,

You could see if creating enable and disable REG files from option 5 below may work for this. You could keep them on your desktop to use.

Please note: you don't 'hear' through the microphone. That's something different to what you asked about e.g. headphones.

'Mute'= 'no sound is sent from your microphone' in this instance.

And you wished to enable it again - unmute it. Not to permanently disable it so it can't be used without difficulty.

What are you trying to accomplish?

If you want to hear nothing --- no game sound, no friend's voice chat --- then mute your own headphone volume.

If you want to mute your friend's microphone --- then go to your friend's house and mute his microphone.

the number you showed not in the registry. also unless i am missing something here, these are all ways to disable the microphone. I know how to disable it, but I need a quick way maybe from the desktop or taskbar to Enable or Disable it instantly? Thanks

Create a desktop shortcut to a script that will toggle between "Enabled" and "Disabled".
The shortcut can be pinned to the taskbar.

Is the problem that you don't know how to create a shortcut making use of this information?

Now you have 3 possible ways. And I'm sorry, it does mean you have to do a little work.
